\nFor these instructions, we will assume you already have WordPress installed<\/a> and have the theme activated that you wish to use with GeoDirectory.<\/p>\n

        <\/a>1. Download plugin:<\/h3>\n

        <\/i> Review these notes about server requirements<\/a> and\u00a0Managed WordPress Hosting<\/a> first.<\/span><\/p>\n

        Automatic installation<\/h4>\n

        Automatic installation is the easiest option. To do an automatic install of GeoDirectory, log in to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to the Plugins menu and click Add New<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

        In the search field type GeoDirectory<\/strong><\/em> and Enter<\/strong><\/em>. Once you’ve found our Directory plugin you install it by simply clicking Install Now<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

        Manual installation<\/h4>\n

        The manual installation method involves downloading our Directory plugin and uploading it to your web server via your favourite FTP application. The WordPress codex will tell you more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

        You can download the plugin from WordPress.org here<\/a>, and save it on your computer.<\/p>\n

        Then in your WordPress Dashboard, go to Plugins<\/strong><\/em> > Add New<\/strong><\/em>, \u00a0then select Upload<\/strong><\/em> and browse to the GeoDirectory zip file you downloaded from WordPress.org. Click Install Now<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n

        <\/a>2. Activate the plugin:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

        This might take a few seconds while the plugin installs the required database tables.
        \n\"\"<\/p>\n

        <\/a>3. Map settings:<\/h3>\n
          \n
        1. After activation you will see a message asking you if you want to set a\u00a0Google Maps API KEY, and another message to set your default location.
          \n\"\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. Clicking on the click here<\/strong><\/em> link will take you to GD > Design > Map<\/strong><\/em>.

          2. Follow the instructions in the\u00a0Add Google API KEY<\/a> article.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            <\/a>3B. Set the default location<\/h4>\n
              \n
            1. Clicking on the\u00a0click here<\/strong><\/em> link will take you to GD > Set Default Location<\/strong><\/em>.
              \n\"\"<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              You have two ways to set the default location:<\/strong>

              \n<\/a><\/span>
              \n#1 Enter a city, region and country<\/strong> for your default location and then click Set Address On Map<\/strong><\/em>, this will set the GPS info as required and move the map marker to the correct location. Note: If you set the lat\/lon manually, it should be in the format 32.715738, -117.16108380000003, not 117.1611\u00b0 W, 32.7157\u00b0 N.
              \nThen click Save<\/strong><\/em> changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

              <\/i> There is no need to enter the latitude or longitude.<\/span><\/p>\n

              #2 You can drag the map marker<\/strong> to the location you wish to use as a default location and we will try to fill in the location details, you should check the location details and make any corrections as required.
              \nThen click Save changes<\/strong> <\/em>to set the default location.<\/p>\n

              <\/i> There is no need to enter the latitude or longitude.<\/span><\/p>\n

              <\/a>4. Change WordPress settings:<\/h3>\n

              <\/a><\/i> For GeoDirectory to work correctly, you need to set WordPress permalinks to use Post\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>name<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

              From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose Settings<\/strong><\/em> > Permalinks<\/strong><\/em> > Tick Post name, <\/strong><\/em>and Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

              <\/a><\/i> For GeoDirectory to work correctly, you also need to allow Anyone to register<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

              From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose Settings<\/strong><\/em> > General<\/strong><\/em> > Tick Anyone can register, <\/strong><\/em>and Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

              <\/a><\/i> For GeoDirectory to work correctly, you also need to Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

              From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose Settings<\/strong><\/em> > Media<\/strong><\/em> > Tick Organise my uploads into month- and year-based folders, <\/strong><\/em>and Save changes.<\/strong><\/em>
              \nNote:<\/em>The default folder for uploaded images is wp-content\/uploads. Do not change this folder.<\/p>\n

              <\/a><\/i> If you want visitors to leave reviews, you need to

              From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose Settings > Discussion\u00a0> Default article settings > Tick Allow people to post comments on new articles<\/strong>, <\/strong><\/em>and Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

              \"\"<\/p>\n

              <\/a>5. Install dummy data (optional but recommended):\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

              This step will add a few categories and listings to your site, so you can get a feel of what is possible with your GeoDirectory site. You will be able to delete them later.<\/p>\n

              <\/i> If you do not install the dummy data or you delete the dummy data, you will have to make sure that you create at least\u00a0one<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0category for your Custom Post Types like\u00a0Places<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Events<\/strong>, or you will not be able to add any listings<\/span>.<\/p>\n

              Click on the General<\/strong><\/em> tab under the GeoDirectory logo and then select the dummy data tab. \u00a0You can select how many listings you would like to install, 10 is the default but you can install up to 30. \u00a0After clicking Insert Sample Data<\/strong><\/em> there will be a short wait while the dummy images are downloaded and the dummy address info created for your default location. You will see an ajax counter displaying the progress and it will let you know when the installation of the dummy data is finished.

              <\/a>6. Setting your home page:<\/h3>\n
                \n
              1. Navigate to GD > Permalinks<\/strong><\/em>, and under GeoDirectory Pages<\/strong><\/em>, you’ll see GD Home Page<\/strong><\/em>.
                \nChoose your directory start page<\/strong><\/em> here:\"\"<\/li>\n
              2. If you want to use your directory start page<\/strong><\/em> for the homepage of your website, make sure you choose the same page at Settings > Reading >\u00a0Front page displays > Front Page:

              3. If you want to use one of your normal WordPress pages for the homepage of your website<\/strong>, then at\u00a0GD Home Page<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0select GD Home Page<\/strong><\/em>, but choose your normal WordPress page at Settings > Reading >\u00a0Front page displays > Front Page.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
