Download plugin:<\/h3>\n<p><i class=\"fa fa-exclamation-triangle fa-2x\" style=\"color: red;\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Review these notes about <a href=\"\/docs\/server-requirements\">server requirements<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"\/docs\/server-requirements\/#wp\">Managed WordPress Hosting<\/a> first.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4>Automatic installation<\/h4>\n<p>Automatic installation is the easiest option. To do an automatic install of GeoDirectory, log in to your WordPress dashboard, navigate to the Plugins menu and click <em><strong>Add New<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>In the search field type <em><strong>GeoDirectory<\/strong><\/em> and <em><strong>Enter<\/strong><\/em>. Once you&#8217;ve found our Directory plugin you install it by simply clicking <em><strong>Install Now<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"greenborder\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/install.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>Manual installation<\/h4>\n<p>The manual installation method involves downloading our Directory plugin and uploading it to your web server via your favourite FTP application. The WordPress codex will tell you <a href=\"http:\/\/codex.wordpress.org\/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">more here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.org\/plugins\/geodirectory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">download the plugin from WordPress.org here<\/a>, and save it on your computer.<\/p>\n<p>Then in your WordPress Dashboard, go to<em><strong> Plugins<\/strong><\/em> &gt; <em><strong>Add New<\/strong><\/em>, \u00a0then select <em><strong>Upload<\/strong><\/em> and browse to the GeoDirectory zip file you downloaded from WordPress.org. Click <em><strong>Install Now<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img class=\"greenborder\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/install1.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"activate\"><\/a>2. Activate the plugin<strong>:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This might take a few seconds while the plugin installs the required database tables.<br \/>\n<img class=\"greenborder\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/activate.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"location\"><\/a>3. Map settings:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>After activation you will see a message asking you if you want to set a\u00a0Google Maps API KEY, and another message to set your default location.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic61.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"106\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><a id=\"mapapi\"><\/a>3A. Setting a\u00a0Google Maps API KEY<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Clicking on the <em><strong>click here<\/strong><\/em> link will take you to <em><strong>GD &gt; Design &gt; Map<\/strong><\/em>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"573\" height=\"40\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/add-google-api-key\/\">Add Google API KEY<\/a> article.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4><a id=\"defloc\"><\/a>3B. Set the default location<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Clicking on the\u00a0<em><strong>click here<\/strong><\/em> link will take you to <em><strong>GD &gt; Set Default Location<\/strong><\/em>.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"565\" height=\"46\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>You have two ways to set the default location:<\/strong><br \/>\n<i class=\"fa fa-folder-open fa-2x\" style=\"color: orange;\"><\/i><span style=\"color: orange;\"> See also <a href=\"\/docs\/core-location\/\">GD Core Plugin \u2013 Default Location<br \/>\n<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>#1 Enter a city, region and country<\/strong> for your default location and then click <em><strong>Set Address On Map<\/strong><\/em>, this will set the GPS info as required and move the map marker to the correct location. Note: If you set the lat\/lon manually, it should be in the format 32.715738, -117.16108380000003, not 117.1611\u00b0 W, 32.7157\u00b0 N.<br \/>\nThen click <em><strong>Save<\/strong><\/em><strong> changes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><i class=\"fa fa-lightbulb-o fa-2x\" style=\"color: green;\"><\/i><span style=\"color: green;\"> There is no need to enter the latitude or longitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>#2 You can drag the map marker<\/strong> to the location you wish to use as a default location and we will try to fill in the location details, you should check the location details and make any corrections as required.<br \/>\nThen click <em><strong>Save changes<\/strong> <\/em>to set the default location.<\/p>\n<p><i class=\"fa fa-lightbulb-o fa-2x\" style=\"color: green;\"><\/i><span style=\"color: green;\"> There is no need to enter the latitude or longitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/save-loation-618x588.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"618\" height=\"588\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><a name=\"permalink\"><\/a>4. Change WordPress settings:<\/h3>\n<p><a id=\"postnames\"><\/a><i class=\"fa fa-exclamation-triangle fa-2x\" style=\"color: red;\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">For GeoDirectory to work correctly, you need to set WordPress permalinks to use <em><strong>Post\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><strong>name<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose <em><strong>Settings<\/strong><\/em> &gt; <em><strong>Permalinks<\/strong><\/em> &gt; Tick <em><strong>Post name, <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"70\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"anyone\"><\/a><i class=\"fa fa-exclamation-triangle fa-2x\" style=\"color: red;\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">For GeoDirectory to work correctly, you also need to allow <strong><em>Anyone to register<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose <em><strong>Settings<\/strong><\/em> &gt; <em><strong>General<\/strong><\/em> &gt; Tick <em><strong>Anyone can register, <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"41\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"media\"><\/a><i class=\"fa fa-exclamation-triangle fa-2x\" style=\"color: red;\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">For GeoDirectory to work correctly, you also need to <strong><em>Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders<\/em><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose <em><strong>Settings<\/strong><\/em> &gt; <em><strong>Media<\/strong><\/em> &gt; Tick <em><strong>Organise my uploads into month- and year-based folders, <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Note:<\/em>The default folder for uploaded images is wp-content\/uploads. Do not change this folder.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"96\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a id=\"discussion\"><\/a><i class=\"fa fa-exclamation-triangle fa-2x\" style=\"color: red;\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If you want visitors to leave reviews, you need to <em><strong><label for=\"default_comment_status\">Allow people to post comments on new articles<\/label><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>From the main WordPress Dashboard menu, choose <em><strong>Settings &gt; Discussion\u00a0&gt; Default article settings &gt; Tick Allow people to post comments on new articles<\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> Save changes.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"717\" height=\"181\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"dummy\"><\/a>5. Install dummy data (optional but recommended):<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This step will add a few categories and listings to your site, so you can get a feel of what is possible with your GeoDirectory site. You will be able to delete them later.<\/p>\n<p><i class=\"fa fa-exclamation-triangle fa-2x\" style=\"color: red;\"><\/i> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If you do not install the dummy data or you delete the dummy data, you will have to make sure that you create at least\u00a0<em><strong>one<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0category for your Custom Post Types like\u00a0<strong>Places<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>Events<\/strong>, or you will not be able to add any listings<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Click on the <em><strong>General<\/strong><\/em> tab under the GeoDirectory logo and then select the dummy data tab. \u00a0You can select how many listings you would like to install, 10 is the default but you can install up to 30. \u00a0After clicking <em><strong>Insert Sample Data<\/strong><\/em> there will be a short wait while the dummy images are downloaded and the dummy address info created for your default location. You will see an ajax counter displaying the progress and it will let you know when the installation of the dummy data is finished.<br \/>\n<img src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/04\/dummy-618x145.png\" alt=\"dummy\" \/><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"home\"><\/a>6. Setting your home page:<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Navigate to <em><strong>GD &gt; Permalinks<\/strong><\/em>, and under <em><strong>GeoDirectory Pages<\/strong><\/em>, you&#8217;ll see <em><strong>GD Home Page<\/strong><\/em>.<br \/>\nChoose your <em><strong>directory start page<\/strong><\/em> here:<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"145\" \/><\/li>\n<li>If you want to use your <em><strong>directory start page<\/strong><\/em> for the homepage of your website, make sure you choose the same page at <em><strong>Settings &gt; Reading &gt;\u00a0Front page displays &gt; Front Page:<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/em><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"greenborder\" src=\"https:\/\/wpgeodirectory.com\/docs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2014\/06\/basic2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"681\" height=\"192\" \/><\/li>\n<li>If you want to use one of your normal WordPress pages for the <strong>homepage of your website<\/strong>, then at\u00a0<em><strong>GD Home Page<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0select <em><strong>GD Home Page<\/strong><\/em>, but choose your normal WordPress page at <em><strong>Settings &gt; Reading &gt;\u00a0Front page displays &gt; Front Page.<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><a id=\"updates\"><\/a>7.
