It doesn’t compare the text with your listings’ addresses. Most “search not working” reports come down to the radius or to the wrong place being found.

The search radius is too small

A large place such as a county or region becomes a single point near its centre. Listings more than the radius away from that point are left out, even if their address is in that county.

Go to GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Search and raise “Search near radius”. The default is 7. A larger radius helps when people search for regions, at the cost of slightly slower searches.

The wrong place is found

Many town names exist in more than one country. If your listings are all in one country, the lookup can still pick a town with the same name elsewhere, which leaves the results empty.

If your directory covers one country or area, enter it in “Search near additional” on the same settings screen, for example
UK
. GeoDirectory adds it to every Near search, so “Devon” is looked up as “Devon, UK”. Leave this blank if you use Location Manager with a default country or region set, because it adds those itself.

Location pages work differently

With the Location Manager add-on, picking a city or region from the location switcher shows every listing in that location, using the location saved with each listing. A Near search uses distance instead, so the two can show different results for the same name.

If you want visitors to browse by town, link to your location pages or add the location switcher. See how to add the location switcher to menus and widgets.

Near Me searches only show listings around the visitor’s own position, so they will look empty to anyone far from your listings.
