By default a category URL looks like <code>\/places\/category\/restaurants\/<\/code>. You can replace <code>category<\/code> with any other slug, such as <code>type<\/code> or a word in your own language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Change the category base<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to Settings &gt; Permalinks in your WordPress admin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll to GeoDirectory Taxonomies.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change <em>Category base<\/em> (and <em>Tag base<\/em> if you like). Neither can be left blank.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Save the changes.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The post type part of the URL (<code>places<\/code>) is the post type slug, set at Places &gt; Settings &gt; General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Keeping old URLs working<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are moving from GeoDirectory v1 or changing the base on a live site, links to the old category URLs would otherwise return 404 errors. <em>Enable 404 rescue<\/em> at GeoDirectory &gt; Settings &gt; General &gt; Developer is on by default. It looks at 404 pages that match a GeoDirectory post type and redirects them to the right URL, which also tells search engines about the change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Test a few old URLs after the change.
