For online shops and businesses that cover several countries, regions or cities, pick the setup that matches how people should find them.

Online stores: a post type without locations

With the Custom Post Types add-on, create a separate post type for these listings (for example “Online stores”) and turn on Disable physical location in its settings at Post type > Settings > General. That post type then has no address fields, map, near search or location filtering, so nobody has to invent a street address.

Only turn this on for a new post type, or one whose location data you don’t need: saving it deletes the location data already stored for its listings, and that can’t be undone.

To show where each shop sells, add a multiselect custom field such as “Ships to” with a list of countries, or use categories or tags. With the Advanced Search add-on, visitors can then filter by that field (How to add a filter to the advanced search filters).

Several branches: Franchise Manager

If the business has real premises in more than one place, the Franchise Manager add-on links a main listing to branch listings, each with its own address and map pin, and keeps shared details in step. See the Franchise Manager setup guide and how to add main and branch listings.

One base that covers an area

For a mobile business with one base, such as a plumber or a party entertainer, keep a single listing with the base address and add the Service Distance field so the owner can say how far they travel. If the base is a home address, add the Private Address field too.

For other ways to handle listings with no street address, see Can I add listings without an address?.

A GeoDirectory listing has one address and one map position, which is what the map, near searches and location pages use.
