A city follows daylight saving changes, and a fixed offset such as +1 does not, which is why hours can be an hour out for half of the year.

If this setting is empty, GeoDirectory uses the time zone from WordPress Settings > General, and if that is not a city either, it uses UTC.

How a listing gets its time zone

When the address is set on the add listing form and the map pin moves, GeoDirectory asks the Google Time Zone API for the time zone at those coordinates and fills it in. If that request fails, the field keeps the default from the setting above.

The lookup needs a Google API key with the Time Zone API enabled. If your main Google Maps key is restricted by HTTP referrer, add a separate key in GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Google Geocoding API Key (an advanced setting). GeoDirectory uses that key for geocoding and time zone requests.

Listing owners and admins can also change the time zone by hand in the business hours field when adding or editing a listing.

Existing listings

The time zone is saved with each listing, so changing the default does not update listings that already exist. Edit those listings and correct the time zone in their business hours.

For setting up the hours themselves, see how to set business hours and time zone.

The business hours field saves a time zone with each listing, so “open now” and “closed” are worked out in the listing’s local time.
