But, yes, somehow you will need to tell each category what icon to use. See also

you can use the standard icons provided with the WPGD Plugin and make a selection wich Category needs wich icon. For example a glass for Bars and Pubs or cutlery for a complete main category Food and drinks, whatever you prefer.

You can use one icon for a category and the child categories or a different icon for each but in this case you don´t have enough choice and you need to buy your own icons or find free marker libraries.
