I have checked previous posts and some people have found problems when either a plugin or theme is conflicting with the excerpt hook.

Plugins – I have disable all plugins.

Theme – Using the Modernize theme however when I change the excerpt word count in the theme’s settings it makes no difference

GD > Design > Listings: Displaying as a list view, 50-word count.

It is still pulling and displaying the entire description.

there must be a function somewhere overriding our excerpt.

I’ve already asked to developers to add appropriate priority to our function so that it doesn’t get replaced by other functions. That should fix your problem too and we hope to release a new version tomorrow or the day after.
