Detail page vs sidebar

Could someone please shed some light on where and when I might want to use the detail page vs using the sidebar. Does one automatically come up under certain conditions?

I have selected their use in my custom post-types but not quite sure how to best display them, I know this may be basically a matter of opinion but what positions would make most sense.

Sidebar are elements present in every page and detail page is… a page. I really don’t understand what you mean.

Could you please try to re-formulate the quesation so that I can understand it?

Maybe with exampes?

Hi nasc, from our previous conversations, I gather that you are asking about where to display the custom fields you are creating on a per custom post type basis.
If you choose on the detail page, then it will be added to the “moreinfo” tab.
So that would mean people have to actually go and look for it.
If you want it to more prominent on the detail page, you would add it to the sidebar as well, so it will be there for all to see without further clicking around.
And if you really think it is important, then you can even add it to the information that will be displayed on listing pages, searches etc.

Thx, That’s exactly the clarification I was looking for, sorry the question was so vague.
