I don’t want to have to enter an address for each Event, just the name of the venue where it is on.

Is there anywhere in the demo that shows the linking between events and places?

Yes this is possible at this moment but for that u have to install payment manager adons, create a price package for adding an event and select ‘Link business’ option to yes. You still have to enter address for adding an event. I will think about your point to make an option so that address will get auto populate too.

Thanks

Thanks for considering the auto populating of addresses. Even better would be not having to enter an address for an event. As events are held at a place/venue/location it makes more sense to enter an address for that location, rather than for the event itself.

Can you add examples of the event linking into the demo so I can see what it looks like?

Thanks

For example, a local festival or rock concert might be held in a paddock somewhere. In that case there will be no other post with that address.
Maybe adding a drop down menu where the event poster can choose one of his other listings, might be better.
But there needs to be an option to add events without having a listing.
For example, if I have a local tourism site, I will not list churches, but I’d like to list the weekly farmers’ market in the church grounds.

Has there been any progress on this?
Mtchairs makes a good point. 90% of the events we run (~1000 monthly) are at the same venues. As this is a directory plugin it would make sense that Places link to their events and events link to venues.
If you are familiar with Events Manager – the venues auto fill from venue name but the admin has the option to allow over-ride of venue (allowing members to add new venue) or not. There is a venue ID field useful for uploading events.
As is the events add-on is not useful for us.
Maybe there is an relatively easy customization for this?

For a venue to link events to the venue, you can use the favorite system.
For example, tell your venue owners to favorite their events and add a link to that list.
Have a look here for a similar example:
