I have a specific field in my “customize my search” area called “Clinic Specialties” These are options that someone can search by. If you select an option that has no results, the title just shows single quotes and it does not look good. How can I fix this? I have a screen shot attached.

Thanks.

these quotes are the result when nothing is written to the search field (in the “Search for” box), basically it tells you that for the “empty” query there are no results, that’s the normal behavior as far as I know (I’d be happy if I’m wrong about this).

It could be tweaked with some code in the search.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I understand there are no search results, but it should let you know that there are no results for “something.” Can you let me know where this can be fixed in the code or add it in a release?

Please advise.

Thanks!

If you can think of something better to put there we will listen but as it stands it is correct.

Thanks,

Stiofan

Background: Lets say I have differet custom post types. For example “Hotels”, “Restaurants”, “Pubs”.

In many applications of GD, the user will be looking for a restaurant or bar in a certain place – but he will not want to use another keword. Because he is already in the right category.

So also in my application, I marked the “Keyword” Field as optional, in order not to confuse the users. (People might use it to look for a specific name, but in general, they don’t need it.)
So in most cases, in the search results you will have as a result “Search for ” “, wich looks bad.

My suggestion: Make it simply “Search results”, and the “for ”” appears only, when something was entered in the keyword field. When the keyword was left empty, please don’t show the “for ‘ ‘ “.

Thanks,
Tom

I’d suggest leading off with the CPT and/or category.

Examples:

Restaurant search results: {keyword} {location}

In this instance, no quotation marks are used.

Now regardless of the combinations, keyword and location, no keyword with location, keyword without location, neither keyword or location, you should have a presentable heading. With neither, you do have the colon, but I think this isn’t a huge issue.

cheers
