I thought I was imagining this, but now realise I’m not. When I visit a category on my directory, for instance ‘Events’, within a few seconds I end up redirected to dogfriendly/me/ (main directory page). This doesn’t happen every time, but occasionally. It’s very weird. I’ll paste the site details below.

You can switch it off in the Advanced search settings

It could lead to people thinking the site is broken and forgetting what they were trying to look at.
