What people use custom map icons for
Directory sites. 1 icon per category, so visitors can tell restaurants from hotels at a glance.
Store locators. Pins in your brand colors, so the map looks like part of your site.
Dashboards and apps. Icons that match your UI, all from the same icon library.
Events and travel maps. Flags for start and finish, and a different symbol for each type of stop.
Frequently asked questions
Is Map Icon Studio free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many map icons you make.
What's the difference between a map icon, a map marker and a map pin?
Nothing. They're 3 names for the same thing: the graphic that marks a location on a map. Map Icon Studio makes all 3.
What file formats can I download?
SVG, and PNG at 1×, 2× or 4×. You can also copy the SVG code, a data URI, or a ready-made snippet for Leaflet, Mapbox GL JS, Google Maps or an HTML img tag.
How do I use a custom map icon in Google Maps, Leaflet or Mapbox?
Pick your platform under Platform snippets and copy the code. The anchor is already set, so the tip of a pin lands exactly on your coordinates. The Leaflet, Mapbox and Google Maps pages have step-by-step help.
Can I use my map icons in WordPress?
Yes. Download the SVG or PNG and upload it to your WordPress Media Library. It works in store locators, map plugins, and in GeoDirectory as the icon for each listing category.
What size should a map icon be?
Most maps display icons between 24 and 48 px. Export SVG if your platform supports it, since it stays sharp at any size. For PNG, download the 2× version so it looks crisp on retina screens.
Can I use the icons commercially?
The map icons you design are yours to use. The symbols come from 14 open-source icon libraries, each under its own license, listed at the bottom of this page. Brand logos from Simple Icons remain trademarks of their owners.
Are my designs stored on your server?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your last 10 designs are saved in your browser on this device, so you can pick up where you left off.
