Hi, is there any update on this please?
June 20, 2016 at 6:02 pm #212404Your site does not have the SSL installed by the looks of it?

June 22, 2016 at 10:51 am #213720It appears there was an issue with my web host, they have said they have now corrected this and the SSL should be showing in the next 24 hours. Also on a side note I have been trying to update the add on’s on my website but it keeps coming up with an error, I have ensured I have entered the correct licences key about 10 times but it still says it’s wrong, I have read on this forum that you have been having issues with the licence key, is there a work around so I can update the add on’s?
June 22, 2016 at 5:31 pm #214108Hi,
that is probably due to an outdated OpenSSL version installed on your server, that makes it impossible for it to communicate with our server. Please ask to your hosting provider support to also update OpenSSL.
Thanks
June 23, 2016 at 8:47 am #214395My web host has said the SSL is now installed, I have also forwarded on the last message you sent me to them (about open SSL), are you able to test it now or does it have to have this open SSL to be able to test it?

23.6.2016. 11:14Dear Miles,
Unfortunately, since this is a shared hosting platform this cannot be upgraded as it is using the default version from the repository, which is being used by the entire platform.
If we can be of any further help with regard to this or any other matter, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind Regards
Florin

July 5, 2016 at 9:02 am #221604Sorry for the delay I have been on holiday. So to clarify, what does not having an open SSL effect, is that what’s causing me not to be able to update the add ons, or is thy why if I type another town, city or postcode into the ‘near’ box it isn’t recognised or is this why thesearch radius function doesn’t appear to work correctly? Also do you have a guidance anyway as to how to update my SSL to an Open SSL, (like you do with how to add an SSL to the site) don’t worry if not, just thought I’d ask.
Thanks
July 5, 2016 at 6:01 pm #221986The old version of OpenSSL installed on your server doesn’t allow it to communicate with our server. OpenSSL is a PHP module installed in 99.9% of LAMP or LEMP servers even if you are serving your website via http and you don’t have a SSL certificate installed.
Not having a SSL cerificate isntalled, thus an unsecure website, GeoLocation will not work.
Updating OpenSSL is the job of your server admin, it isn’t something you can do on your own, unless you have root access to your server.
Thanks
July 19, 2016 at 5:27 pm #230185Good evening, I have just been speaking to a web developer in relation to my site, I have asked him to help me update my site from a shared hosting platform to VPS and why I was doing it. He has said that he cant see the exact reason why not having the most recent version of open SSL should cause any issues (other than security) and has asked if you can specify exactly what version of open SSL I need (as in, the earliest version number). The server requirements on your website don’t say anything about open SSL or even having an SSL installed at all, it only states “WordPress in general requires more than shared hosting for anything bigger than a tiny blog or a static website”.
it goes on to state:
“All managed WordPress hosting uses caching systems that are not compatible with GD’s geolocation features.
Managed hosting is good only for blogs or static websites. The only caching system that works with GD is GD Booster, and all other caching needs to be disabled.”
I have checked and I have no caching plug ins on my site not even GD booster, so I don’t believe this will be causing any issues?
In relation to the updates no working properly is open SSL required to load the plug ins or is this specifically for the operation of geo-location?
July 19, 2016 at 6:37 pm #230211Hi,
you can use any version released after feb 2011. Read this for more details: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/map-zoom-on-franchise/page/2/#post-218379
OpenSSL is needed to communicate with our server to download the updates.
Geo-Location has to do with having a SSL certificate installed (https://yoursite.com instead of http://yoursite.com).
Thanks
