Your theme is most likely taking over the style of buttons and making them look as they do, which would explain why the styling options are not working.

I was thinking one other thing, do you think it would be possible to somehow create some kind of integration your dynamic email plugin?

Here's what I'm thinking. After the contractor pays for the lead, does the work, the dynamic email plug-in would automatically (or maybe 1 week later) send out an email to the customer asking if they did hire our listing contractor and to request a review for that contractor? Would be pretty cool! Very efficient way to get more reviews.
