Shortcode Builder - You need to start from scratch each time?

Hey everyone.

I am new to Geo Directory. I am loving it so far. Quick question about the shortcode builder. Once you have created a shortcode and uploaded it to your site, if you then want to make some small changes, do you have to reload it and start from scratch each time? It's driving me crazy. (I am using Divi Theme).

For example. Using the gd_listings shortcode, I have built some design options. If I just want to change the card row gap, when I click the shortcode icon, it loads blank! I cannot just change that one aspect. I cannot seem to copy and paste in the code that I have already created.

I have written down every option in a shreadsheet that that as I make changes, I can remember what all the other options were. It is very time-consuming.

I know that I could probably edit in the code itself, but I don't know how to do this. I need the visual shortcode builder.

If I am doing something wrong, please let me know.

Yes, that is a problem with Divi and other page builders that do not use blocks.
With blocks, you can make changes to the existing widgets, but that is not possible with shortcodes.
You can choose to use the WordPress built-in editor to use blocks if you like, instead of using the Divi page builder.

I'm not sure if you can use it for every shortcode, but as I am also no expert on the subject I use a system when I need several shortcodes and if they all have to be in the same font, color and so on.

Install Classic Editor, and activate it.

Now create a new page.

When you click on the 'create shortcode' button you can create any shortcode you want. If for example you need a shortcode for the post category in color dark and font-size h6 then in the block on the right you see the proper shortcode. You can copy that code.

If the next shortcode is for example post_date all you need to do is change the input on the left. Once done the shortcode you need is again on the right still in the same font and color.

Another tip: copy every shortcode you make into a word-document with a shrtt description next to it. Saves you a lot of time in re-inventing the wheel.
