Hello, how does the directory get a visitors location when using the “Near Me” search bar? I am testing it and I’m finding that it’s locating me in the wrong area. When I test it on my mobile, it seems to work fine though.

    Hi Joy,

May I know which browser are you using? If you’re using Google Chrome, did you allow the browser to track your location? Here’s an article that might help you. Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks!

If not on a mobile device, geolocation can be the exchange you are connected to.
For example, in my case, my computer often locates me 50km away.

Hi Guust, that seems to be what is happening on my end. How do we fix that? It’s not really Geolocating if it’s identifying incorrect locations. Thank you.

That’s doesn’t make sense…when I go on my cellphone carrier, Yelp, etc. it seems locates me accurately.

Your cellphone has different geolocation built in and does not connect by using a wire to the exchange, like your computer.

Yes, I understand that. I mean, when I’m on my computer GD will locate me incorrectly, but if I go to other websites that use location, I am located accurately.

Oh well, visitors can search with their location details if the Geo location is inaccurate.

The other sites locate your street address correctly?
    Can you share the URLs?

Not my specific enough to my street, but within reasonable distances. My site was locating me nearly 100 miles away.

The other sites I’ve tried was Yelp, Verizon, T-Mobile, Weather.com and similar sites that ask permission for location permission.

    Hi,

this is the service we use: https://google-developers.appspot.com/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/full/map-geolocation

    Better tested with Chrome.

Is it giving a different result?

    Let us know,

    Thanks
