Today we released the 1st BETA version of the Custom Post Type Add-on for GeoDirectory V2 (you can download it from your account area now).
We also released updates for the Core plugin V2, the Location Manager, the Advanced Search and the MultiRatings Add-ons V2.
Custom Post Type V2
Like for previously released V2 BETA add-ons, we mainly focused on improving the code under the hood and making better settings pages.
However for this add-on we also decided to add an extra feature that should make it a groundbreaking advancement for GeoDirectory.
CPT enhanced linking
Linking one or more listing of one CPT to a listing of another CPT was already possible with V1, but there were several limits.
With this new version, most of those limits are removed.
For example you can create 2 CPT:
and you can link a doctor to 1 or more hospitals.
Before you could only link 1 doctor with 1 hospital, now the linking field is a multiselect.
The hospital listing will show all linked doctors in a new tab.
While in the doctor listing there will be a tab showing all hospitals where he works.
Other CPT linking examples
A generic scenario could be to have a CPT “Product” and link any product to any listing of the CPT “Store” that have that product available. Users will be able to search a product and see which store have the product in stock.
In a more specific example you can create a CPT “Craft Beer” and a CPT “Pubs” and link each Craft Beer listings to the Pubs listings that are selling that specific Craft Beer. Your users will be able to find each Pub serving their favorite Craft beer with 2 clicks.
2 way linking is also possible and when we’ll release the Events add-on (it is next in line to be released), you will be able to link artists to events and events to venues.
Possibilities will be endless.
as for all other add-ons we made sure settings are much easier to work with and settings pages are blending with the native WP interface.
Current members can download this new add-on from your account area.
We hope you enjoy the new Custom Post Types features and please report any bug found here: http://wpgeodirectory.com/support/forum/custom-post-types-addon/cpt-v2-beta/
