Custom Post Type V2 BETA released

With enhanced listing linking capabilities...

Today we released the 1st BETA version of the Custom Post Type Add-on for GeoDirectory V2 (you can download it from your account area now).

We also released updates for the Core plugin V2, the Location Manager, the Advanced Search and the MultiRatings Add-ons V2.

Custom Post Type V2

Like for previously released V2 BETA add-ons, we mainly focused on improving the code under the hood and making better settings pages.

However for this add-on we also decided to add an extra feature that should make it a groundbreaking advancement for GeoDirectory.

CPT enhanced linking

Linking one or more listing of one CPT to a listing of another CPT was already possible with V1, but there were several limits.

With this new version, most of those limits are removed.

For example you can create 2 CPT:

  1. Hospital
  2. Doctors

and you can link a doctor to 1 or more hospitals.

Before you could only link 1 doctor with 1 hospital, now the linking field is a multiselect.

The hospital listing will show all linked doctors in a new tab.

While in the doctor listing there will be a tab showing all hospitals where he works.

Other CPT linking examples

A generic scenario could be to have a CPT “Product” and link any product to any listing of the CPT “Store” that have that product available. Users will be able to search a product and see which store have the product in stock.

In a more specific example you can create a CPT “Craft Beer” and a CPT “Pubs” and link each Craft Beer listings to the Pubs listings that are selling that specific Craft Beer. Your users will be able to find each Pub serving their favorite Craft beer with 2 clicks.

2 way linking is also possible and when we’ll release the Events add-on (it is next in line to be released), you will be able to link artists to events and events to venues.

Possibilities will be endless.

Settings pages

as for all other add-ons we made sure settings are much easier to work with and settings pages are blending with the native WP interface.

We hope you enjoy the new Custom Post Types features and please report any bug found here:

  1. Just curious to know if this will be supported by Claim Listing. For instance, one Hotel has 10 sales staff for different markets. Can multiple sales staff claim the listing to be listed on the hotel listing or is this a manual process of linking?

Furthermore, when contacting the listing, can the person trying to make contact with the listing select which of the staff they would like their solicitation to go to?

    1. Hi,

What you described is possible without the claim listing add-on, which is only needed to claim ownership of an existing listing only.

The CPT add-on is all you need for that scenario.

  2. Hi there.
Great feature to have. Just wondering though…one of the best link features of V1 was being able to link a business (place) to an event and with the click of a BUTTON- Auto fill the business details when adding an event. This was invaluable when a customer was adding events daily… I hope that this great feature and function will still be available in some way with v2 ?

    1. Hi,

yes we’ll add that option back before final release.

  3. GD V2 is shaping up quite nicely. The updated CPT has some good developments. I’m also looking forward to seeing the updated Events add-on which is due very soon. And, I’m really looking forward to the final release of GD V2.

I often say to my clients that “slow is fast”, together with the old carpenters rule of “measure twice, cut once”, but gees, do I find this a challenge when I’m the one waiting, waiting, waiting.

    1. Thanks for your comment Chris. The amount of work needed was monumental, but we are almost there.

All we can say is thanks for your patience!

  4. This looks so awesome! Can’t wait for Events! 🙂

  5. Very very cool. This definitely opens up a whole host of possibilities. Combined with how CPTs are much more visible in the new Advanced Search system makes GD V2 a very impressive system. Looking forward to Events!
