Potential issues with the Login widget.
Under “Add Listing” it starts out with a text box…anything typed in here seems to come back with a ‘Sorry, nothing found for “whatever”‘ I now realize that the text box is for entering a category/CPT name. However, this may be confusing for users. If I’m looking to add a “Hotel” and type that in, unless that is a CPT name, I get the above message. This is probably more intuitive as a dropdown scroll with all options.
Under “My Listings” I am unable to see anything below the “My Listings” underneath the Text Box because I had it placed in the footer, and similar thing, it is related to CPT name (Places, Events for the default). I only stumbled on this because I tried using the down arrow key, but users aren’t going to figure this out.
Anyway, I think some additional design tweaks need to be made here regarding the UI.
Cheers,
BrianAugust 12, 2014 at 12:43 pm #11754Have you selected what to add to that widget?
GD > design > navigation > User Dashboard Post Type Navigation SettingsA URL could be handy to see your problem.
August 12, 2014 at 1:16 pm #11757Guust, sorry, have it “behind a wall” at the moment.
Anyway, I’ve checked the nav settings. It isn’t so much an issue of what is selected to be shown, more that I’m not sure the text box is intuitive to users. It’s an open ended request rather than a selection from a limited amount of choices. If they type in “Places” or another CPT title that’s fine, but if they are thinking deeper within the CPT, like hotel, restaurant, cafe, doctor, etc., then they are stuck until they try clicking on what is visible or their typing registers one of the CPT titles.
August 12, 2014 at 10:43 pm #11800I wonder whether the text box should be there at all? I think it would be rare to have more than 10 CTPs, so they could easily be just listed, could they not?
I’ll get Stiofan to have a look.
August 12, 2014 at 10:57 pm #11801Hi Guust,
I am wondering the same thing too whether we should have that textbox or not. 🙂
August 13, 2014 at 12:21 am #11809I think it would simplify and be less confusing, but it should also be able to accommodate “any number” of CPTs. I agree though that it will most likely be single or low double digits. My current structure is looking like 11.
Cheers
August 13, 2014 at 3:04 am #11822Slightly off topic, but with 11 CPTs you might want to have a look at this…

August 13, 2014 at 11:59 am #11853thanks. Yes, I share your concern as well. I’m looking to start with 1 free type (unfortunately also includes the description which would be nice to exclude or limit) as well as a 3-tier pricing (good, better, best) after that, with room to add more, though moving beyond that can lead to confusion and users being a bit overwhelmed, so maybe not.
But of course, if you add in frequency as an option, say monthly or quarterly and annually, that magnifies it as well. Ideally, I hope GD will at some point be able to handle that frequency issue, where everything is the same except that and it can merely be setup and presented with the package…”+ to add” on the admin side and then radio select between the frequency options on the user side.
cheers
August 14, 2014 at 12:00 pm #12019As Guust said you can add CPT to this list, if you have lots the textbox will help you find it quickly, am i missing something here?

I think the text box is a little non-standard and may be confusing for users. I’m already more familiar with GD than most people coming to the site, and when I clicked on “My Listings” I didn’t think to type in Places or Events, but tried typing in the title of one of my test listings, only for it to say that nothing was found.
I just think a dropdown scroll window that lists the items removes a lot of ambiguity and confusion.
cheers
