location based push notifications

    Hi,

    I am looking to add push notifications to users that opt in and are geographically located near the addresses for my posts. The goal being for those geographically located near these addresses to clink on the notification and visit the posts for the locations near them.

    Is this possible or an upcoming feature? If not, are you aware of any other plug ins that could help with this?

    Hello,

    that is not a feature of GD at this time. I will flag this for the developers and they can comment if they have it in mind for a future release.

    I have not yet heard of something like this for WP. A lot of User specific features are going into our UsersWP plugin: http://userswp.io

    For sites that are using GeoDirectory and UsersWP, and then Advanced Search Filters, there might be a way to manage a location history for users, which could be a starting point for the features you are talking about. Push notifications themselves would be handled by a different plugin, most likely 3rd party, but a UsersWP addon might be a good way to trigger the event that results in the push.

    When you say “push notifications” what do you mean, email? That usually refers to app push notifications.

    We don’t have anything like that but i am interested in knowing what you mean.

    I was thinking of a browser (or other type of ) notification that would let notify users (that opt in) when they are near one of the locations on my site.

    More specifically, my site includes posts each of which has a historical audio recording that users can listen to. It would be useful if a notification could pop up that tells the user he is near one of these historical places and he/she should go to the appropriate post and listen to the audio.

    Neat! Just checked out your site. You might contact the Geotourism Center about that, they work with apps.

    Hi Victor,

    We don’t have such a thing yet, most of the features are not fully supported by all browsers/devices. Maybe we will revisit it in future.
