Non-location Specific Category Links

Hi,

I am building a regional tourism website and wonder if you are able to help with the following issue:-

The categories associated to a particular listing only link to other category listings within the same city. I would like to make the category links non-location specific.

ie. someone is visiting the detail page for a castle in a city, there are numerous other castles within the region but none other in the same city so the category link will show no results as attached to that city, whereas being able to show all the castles within the region regardless of the city via the category link would be very useful to users.

I have read other posts on this and the only solution I found was to turn off the permalinks setting of add location in url. Whilst this did work it also meant I couldn’t use the location filters in widgets which was also providing a useful link structure for visitors.

It would be great if I could amend just the category links to not be location specific, basically for it to link to the category url which would then show all results for that category, is there any way to do this?
