If you go to GD/CPTs and “edit” a CPT and go to “Advanced Mode” at the bottom there is “Linkable to”. I’m wondering if this will help me with something.

Right now I have a CPT for:

    Skills
    Food and Drink
    Places
    Organizations
    Web Based
    Events

“Web Based” and “Food and Drink” is the one CPT’s that are the most tricky. Some food and drink businesses are strictly web based. It doesn’t seem right to have the same category in two different CPT’s.

Do you think I should have a food delivery in both CPT’s? I’m afraid this may confuse visitors and people listing.
Could using “Linkable to” help with this? If so how?

Please help with suggests. Thanks! VeganLinked.com

You should have food delivery in both if there are food delivery that are only web based and other that also have a physical location.

Linking CPT will not help with this.

That should be used for things like.

CPT Shops linked to CPT Malls.

so that you can attach all Shop listings to the Mall listing they belong to.

    Thanks

Awesome, thanks, that helps a lot. I spent some time talking this through with someone yesterday and came to the same conclusion. It helps knowing a GD Expert feels the same. I like knowing how the linking CPT works too. I am not sure I’ll ever need this feature but the more I learn about my niche and this feature the more likely I can decide to or not. So I appreciate your taking time to explain it! Do you have an example somewhere that I can see this in action?

Yes with Events linked to Places: https://wpgeo.directory/supreme-directory/places/united-states/california/san-francisco/restaurants/tasty-food-inc/

At the end of this place you’ll find the events linked to that place.

    Thanks

Wait a minute, this is already happening without my doing the CPT linkable dealio:

    https://veganlinked.com/in/united-states/north-carolina/asheville/asheville-vegan-society/

At the end of this place you’ll find the events linked to that place.

See images attached showing nothing has been linked yet I still have events linked to the place as you suggested, this seems to be different.

That option is only to allow linkage between CPTs. Events is a separate case.

The link event option is in the price manager. You must have it enabled.

    Thanks

Are you saying CPT linkage does the same thing? because I was originally talking about that and then you showed me the way events associated to a listing look which I thought was different…

Yes it works the exact same way.

Thanks, it would be neat to see an actual example of this, a real world example. As far as I can tell you’re just doing what events already does.

Since events show on the bottom, what happens when, like you said, a mall is linked to businesses and has events? Does the mall listing show events on the bottom and businesses on the bottom the same way?

In the case where the mall CPT is linked to the businesses, is the business CPT linkable to the Mall CPT or the other way around? Maybe the mall would need to dictate and/or approve which listings associated with its’ location?

Details and examples would be very helpful to understand this feature so I may take full advantage of it and not have to spend as much trial and error time. Actually building a directory for production is very time consuming. So anything to help us save time is very much appreciated! thanks!

It works just like linking events and places.

If you link business with mall, you can’t link malls with businesses.

Only the admin has the option to approve or not listings. The mall listing owner can only refer to the admin for anything wrong.

We can’t make example for any possible combination, sorry.

I think the mall example would be a fantastic demonstration of this. The event one is not a good example because GD already shows events like this independent of this specific “linkable to” feature. I just think it would be helpful because it would demonstrate how it can be used in a case where it’s actually used and save us time experimenting.

I’m still not clear on what would happen if the mall would have events and linkable listings. Would they just pile up on the bottom? Are linkable listings displayed in an identical way as the events are?

I would test it, but I’m super swamped building this site, creating content and working hard to hopefully achieve a return on investment sooner than later… I know you guys are busy too though so I understand that you may not have time to create a demo of this feature…
