    Hi,

I have not activated the GD Location Manager AddOn because my GD directory is set for a single location, my town Roses. However, when I try to add a listing of a business in a rural area located near, but not outside, its official limits, I get the message “Please choose any address of the Roses region only” and I get the map pin back to the default location center.

Is there some other option to solve this issue than to activate the GD Location Manager AddOn?

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you very much once again for your help.

    Best regards.

    Hi jotomas,

Thanks for your post. Could you please share the URL of the site in question so we can take a better look at it and also tell us how to replicate it? Also, share your WP admin access in private reply and we’ll check on it.

    Thanks!

I am not aware of any option to get around that.

There is no way to add a listing outside your default location without the location manager.

    Thanks

    Hi all,

Thank you very much for your responses.

Paolo, I understand what you say. My question is: who fixes the limits of the default location? Because they are wrong for my location! I drag a pin in the map to place a listing inside the “official” limits of my default location, but the system says that it is outside the location.

If there is nothing I can do to change these limits, do I have to activate the Location Manager AddOn and then place the pin in the neighboring location? Then the system will accept that I change the name of the location in the listing?

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you very much once again for your help.

    Best regards.

The limits are set by the API you are using, either Google or OSM. In the past some users have attempted to contact Google about issues like that with varying successs, and OSM is a “DIY” application, so it os possible to login there and adjust something like the ‘city limits’.

That said, you can download the Location Manager from your account here on the site, install it, and then, as you add listings, curate the list of cities/regions where listings may be added. See the docs for more information:

    Hi Alex,

Thanks a lot for the information.

I already have the Location Manager AddOn installed but not activated, since I expected not to need to activate it.

Just to be sure, let me explain the situation:

    1) My default location is Roses.
    2) I want to add the listings of two businesses located near the limits of Roses, close to the neighbouring location, which is Cadaqués, but within the limits of Roses.
    2) But the API locates them outside the limits of Roses, that is, I suppose, within the limits of Cadaques.

Now, supposing that I activate the Location Manager AddOn, I understand that I will need to add the city of Cadaques and add those two listings as of being located in Cadaques, but now the question is:

Will I be able to change the name of the city shown for those two listings to Roses? Or they will be shown always as located in Cadaques?

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you very much once again for your attention.

    Best regards.

    You can merge the locations
    https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/manage-location/#merge

You can also use any of the other options in “Manage Locations” once it is activated.

    Hi Alex,

I have found an additional issue.

The Location Manager AddOn adds location slugs to the GD posts permalinks and causes 404 error with WPML translated GD posts (not with the original language post).

I still have to check in detail GD and WPML permalink settings, but any help or advice will be welcome.

I have also found that I can add the neighboring locations and merge them to the default location as you suggested, add the listings that were not accepted in the default location without the Location Manager AddOn activated, and then deactivate the Location Manager AddOn, and the new listings keep working.

I look forward to your reply.

Thank you very much once again for your help.

    Best regards.

Try resaving the Mulitlocations settings, GD Permalinks and the WordPress permalinks.

In cases where there are large changes to the permalinks the process must be rerun to make changes to all the URLs.

If that doesn’t fix it you can share your site details and we will take a look at the settings.

RE: Listings with the new location, yes, that is correct. In your case I would recommend that you continue to run the location manager and limit the selection of country/region/city to ‘selected’ to keep the list focused.
