Dear support,
I nearly finished my website when another error popped up. At least it’s an interesting one:
I have my website hostet at WPEngine. The offer a staging area where you can work on problems or improvements without affecting the life site.
I had my install finished in this staging area and everything was running fine. I moved it back to the life site (which makes an exact copy of the install) – and suddenly the search delivered wrong results. Instead of the one correct result in my example below, it lists pretty much all posts.
Since both install are exact copies of each other, the error must be caused by the way GeoDirectory (or something that is affecting GD) reacts to the conditions of the live environment.
I talked to the WPEngine guys and asked for the differences between the staging and the live areas, so that you can maybe track the problem down. Here is what they said:
The main difference between staging and live is that the staging environment is a completely uncached environment, whereas the live environment is cached. It may be that we need to exclude a certain element of the plugin from the varnish cache to get it to work.
You are welcome to relay this information to the plugin developer and let us know if there’s a cookie or file we need to exclude from caching, which we can do for the live environment.
I checked out the two links you provided and they don’t look to be set up exactly the same, with no search box listed above the search results in the live environment, whereas this is still present in the staging environment.
Please let us know if we may be of any further assistance and if the plugin developer has any recommendations as to your configuration that we can assist with, we’d be happy to check those out.

WP Engine – Finely Tuned WordPressIndeed it is interesting that the broken results page in the life site looks a little different with the search bar missing. That must be related to the problem, because both sites are copies of each other that I just made minutes ago, without doing any changes to any of them. And the search is exactly the same as you can see in the search URL in the private reply that I will post in a second.
Do you have any recommendation what I or the WPEngine guys can do to solve this problem? Or is there something that can be done on your side?
Thank you very much for your help,
kind regards,

September 10, 2015 at 6:40 pm #52712Hi Stiofan,
thank you for your very quick reply.
OK, so GD is actually not loading. That is a good hint. Than it has probably something to do with the “Plugin Organizer” Plugin that has already caused some problems with redirects. I was able to find a workaround there, but I guess I have to not workaround but solve the problems. I already tried to cantact the plugin author, but he is unfortunately not as responsive as you guys are (… which is really cool, by the way :-))I guess that is where the problem comes from. Maybe some 4.3 incompatibility or so … I will do a clean install of that plugin, and reset everything. That will take some time, let’s see if that helps.
Thank you so far, I will report once I was successfull or if questions come up.
Cheers,
TomSeptember 10, 2015 at 6:42 pm #52713Ok thanks for clearing that up, it was confusing my brain 🙂

Thanks,

September 10, 2015 at 9:18 pm #52726Hi Stiofan,
OK, I deleted one of the conflicting plugins, and cleaned up a lot of the “Plugin Organizer” settings.
A lot of things work now, but I do habe a problem with viewing previews. When I create a listing and it’s a draft, as admin I should be able to view the preview in the backend. But I get a 404.
Also what about the preview link that is mailed to the listing creator? If he clicks the link, he get’s a 404, too. Even when he is logged in.
The preview at the end of the listing creation process works, and the creator of the listing can also edit it. It’s just the “previews”.
I went to the permalinks and saved them again, but that did not change anything. Do you have an idea what this could be?
Please feel free to use the credentials above to check.
Thanks a lot,
TomSeptember 11, 2015 at 7:28 am #52743Good Morning Stiofan,
I think I got it.
This morning, I thought I deactivate all GD plugins, and activate them again in the right order. Simply because there was so much back & forth, I thought it would be good to make a little new start.
First I was irritated because I had to enter lots of settings again. All the notifications and more were gone. On the other hand, this just shows that something was wrong somewhere.
Since I had the old settings in the staging area, I could copy & paste them from there. So it wasn’t too much of a hassle.
Now, everything seems to run smoothly! I will test during the day, and check if really everything runs fine & stable, but currently at looks like I finally have everything up & running.
Thank you so much for your ongoing fast & profound support!!! 🙂
Please mark this thread as resolved for now.
Have a nice day,
