We’ve run a small scale usability test on the location switcher. This issue has been raised before in the forums, but I’d like to highlight the results.
Two people with programming backgrounds figured out how to use the switcher to set a location with only a little difficulty. However, neither could figure out how to unset the location.
None of our other testers figured it out on their own. These are web users, and familiar with web development, but not programmers.
We asked them to use both the menu version and the widget version to set a specific location. The multi selector was just too unfamiliar. They didn’t get that they needed to select country, region, or city, then select from the pull-down.
If this happened only once, perhaps you could discount the results. But it happened every time.
The location selector appears to harm GeoDirctory’s usability. I recommend that it be reworked ASAP.
