Hi! I am having a problem with the Archive Item page template in combination with Elementor.
I can’t get the “Archive Item Section” widget to work as intended.
Either,
(1) I add the necessary shortcodes into a shortcode element and the “Archives Items Section” shortcode works as intended. But then ANY other element or customization of the page is ignored.
Or,
(2) I use the GD Widgets from the elements sidebar, and every content and customization is shown, but then the Archive Item Section widgets don’t do their work.

March 25, 2020 at 11:39 am #536706Hello,
Do you need them? They are not required.
Sounds like case #2 ftw.
March 25, 2020 at 6:41 pm #536780Well, kinda. The Archive Item Section widget provides the functionality for the Loop Action widget, plus I provides responsiveness.
For instance, if I create a two column layout in the Archive Item Template without the Archive Item Section widget, I cannot choose grid view anymore. Well, I can, but it’s broken. Grid 1 doesn’t change anything, and in Grid 2 everything is a mess.
Plus, without the Archive Items Section widget the Loop is not responsive anymore. When it gets too narrow, it jumps into Grid view – which is broken.
March 25, 2020 at 7:14 pm #536786Just so you know, what I am trying to achieve here.
I would like to have visually individual containers for each listing in the loop. I can achieve this by adding a margin in the Archive Items template. But only, if I don’t use shortcodes, only widgets. But: the Archive Item Section widget doesn’t work.

Thanks for your reply. We can try adjusting that using custom CSS. Could you share the URL of the page in question?

Thanks for your reply. I see the issue now. It seems you’re using the elementor builder for your Archive Item Template and it makes it difficult to adjust using custom CSS. A workaround would be to avoid using elementor builder for your Archive Item Template and adjust the stylings using custom CSS. Would you like to give it a try?
March 27, 2020 at 6:26 pm #537143Yes, absolutely. I don’t need any particular Elementor functionality for the Archive Item Template, I’d assume.
For the styling I have in mind, I only need to define some sort of div-container, a background-color, and padding and margin. Is that correct?
March 27, 2020 at 6:31 pm #537145Hi Andreas,
Just switch it to the default setup as explained here and we’ll see what happens next. Usually, GD shortcodes provide div containers that allow customization via CSS.
March 28, 2020 at 6:26 pm #537229I inspected the page: The shortcodes create two separate div-containers (section left and section right), which are further controlled by the Loop Actions widget.
That means, as far as I understand it, whatever (static) styling you would apply via CSS (margin/padding), doesn’t fulfill its purpose correctly anymore, once the Loop Actions widget changes the order of these containers.
I don’t see any shared “parent” container for those two, which I could style.
March 29, 2020 at 8:36 pm #537338The li is the container.
April 10, 2020 at 5:49 pm #539522Sorry, I haven’t had time to look into this yet. I’ll let you know, how it worked, as soon as possible.
