I need to change the default sort method to Featured for all post types and can’t seem to figure out how or where to do it in the settings other than through shortcodes, which as soon as a user searches goes back to by published date. Is there a way to change this that I’m missing or manually through code that won’t get overwritten with updates?
Also a couple more questions if possible to be answered:
– Any way to change the secondary default search mode to Date Modified rather than Date Published as well, after the Featured listings?
– On the advances search bar, how do I enable the post types to display categories and subcategories instead of just the post type?
November 24, 2015 at 12:25 am #61312Ok I actually just stumbled upon how to add the sorting options to allow for default Featured in the listings, so that’s covered. I also see how we can add categories, however when I added the categories and select one to filter by it’s returning no results across the board so doesn’t seem to be working. It also is adding an additional caption below the category selection that’s duplicating the name of that filter that I can’t seem to get rid of, pleas visit http://s7on7.staging.wpengine.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=&sgd_placecategory%5B%5D=323&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon= to view what I’m referring to.
Even though I figured out how to add sorting filters to allow users to sort by date, featured, etc, that only shows up on the default listing pages and not on the actual search pages for some reason if you can explain why or how I can get it there as well, here’s an example page: http://s7on7.staging.wpengine.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=a&snear=&sgd_placecategory%5B%5D=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=
November 24, 2015 at 12:57 am #61315We need to have a look how you set up the search, that does not seem right.
Can you post your admin details in a private reply?http://s7on7.staging.wpengine.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=

Trying to get one on my homepage and it doesn’t show up at all, just blank, not even in the code after inspecting and I’ve tried multiple ways of listing the shortcode and widget and it’s just blank.
November 24, 2015 at 4:27 am #61329The listing slider widget only works for listings that have at least one image.
Sorting is only for the listings pages, not the search pages.I cannot figure out your search problem, I do not understand why the search by category does not work, I’ll get Paolo to have a look.
The search is fine as long you do not customize it, but as soon you want to filter by category, you never get results.
Paolo, the Places have been renamed to Events, so do not think that the Events are using the Events addon.November 24, 2015 at 4:40 am #61330Ok good to know on the listing slider widget and the sorting ability. Let me know what you find out with the category searching issue.
Last thing I found is while in the “Edit Category” pages, information I insert into the Category Top Description should show up on that listing page at the top correct? For some reason no matter what I add nothing shows up on the category pages, but maybe I’m misunderstanding it’s use. I’d like to be able to add custom content/description/banner ad to the top of each category page (i.e. http://s7on7.staging.wpengine.com/events/tournaments/) but when I have added it here (http://s7on7.staging.wpengine.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?action=edit&taxonomy=gd_placecategory&tag_ID=324&post_type=gd_place) it does nothing. Let me know what I’m doing wrong.
And I really appreciate the quick responses! I am actually switching last minute from the Sabai Directory plugin due to a lack of support/response and overall less features than this plugin so very happy so far and apologize for the rush! Thanks!
November 24, 2015 at 7:08 am #61335I think it has something to do with the fact you moved all GD page templates like Add Listing, Location etc under a parent page. GD pages are meant to be at the first level.
Can you move all GD pages out from under the parent page “7on7 Directory”.November 24, 2015 at 4:59 pm #61373Hi,
about the advance search with category, there is something that is messing with the queries.
It could be something in the theme or in another plugin. We would need FTP details to track it down faster.
Let us know,
Thanks

I’m definitely still having issues with the sorting though, I have it set to sort by featured but it will not show the featured listing first no matter what I do. I can search for it and see that it’s featured, but it won’t show up at the top when I filter or by default which it’s supposed to do. This is the primary reason people will pay to feature their listing so I definitely need this to work as advertised.
Here’s a link to the single featured listing we’ve set up for testing so far: http://s7on7.staging.wpengine.com/events/pa/plymouth-meeting/camps-clinics/kicking-world-1-day-philadelphia-pa-kicking-camp/
November 25, 2015 at 8:56 pm #61524What’s even more weird, is that when I search by Date, the featured image is the first there, and the other listings are definitely not in order of the date we added them. Somethings off here, maybe the sorting fields are switched or mixed up from what they say? Like sort by date is actually sort by featured? Strange.
November 26, 2015 at 11:50 am #61552The problem was the plugin “Theme my login” you would have to ask them why they change the queries. I have left it deactivated and things now work as expected.
Thanks,
Stiofan
November 27, 2015 at 4:42 pm #61712Travaggie,
I have asked GD support about adding a secondary sort function, but was told it’s impossible. If you find a way to do this, please let me know.
December 2, 2015 at 8:11 pm #62318Sorry but this is not resolved. Aside from the category search not working (which disabling theme my login did not work), the bigger problem is the sorting is all messed up. I have 1 featured listing, and when I select to search by featured, it doesn’t show up at the top. When I sort by date, it shows up at the top, but it’s nowhere close to the most recently published or edited listing. The sorting is all messed up…need this fixed ASAP as it completely makes featured listings worthless…
