Hi Guys,
I really think there is a usability flaw with the directory search on the homepage.
When you select a CPT in the search, it automatically redirects to the CTP listing page. Therefore the search on the homepage can only be used to search whatever the first CPT is in the list, which makes it pretty useless.
The solution would be to:
a) Have the first option in the CPT list to be “All Listings” and allow the user to search all listings on the site. There would then be a filter on the results page to select a particular CPT. This is what http://www.kijiji.ca does which works well.
I would really like to see this implemented. I will be using CPT as my level 1 categories and It does not make usability sense to make the user try to guess which CPT the listing they are looking for is under. I plan to have over 20 CPT and 10,000 listings and no universal search will make it very difficult to find a listing.
b) do not redirect when you select a CPT to allow the user to search that CPT on the homepage. This is what http://www.kijiji.ca. A list of CPT which links directly to the CPT page can easily be added to the navigation menu so it is not necessary is the search bar.
Thank you for your consideration of this issue.

June 29, 2014 at 11:45 pm #6739Hmmm, can’t say I agree with you.
a. I don’t like that you need to select a location to search.
b. Specifically on your request, If I’m looking for a Leather Jacket I don’t really want to see cars with leather seats etc.June 30, 2014 at 4:24 am #6748+1 for a universal search function. The CPT’s are great but we cant use GD without an improved search function
What is confusing is this, the advanced search filters add-on suggests its possible to set up a proxmity search?
From the GD add-on description
This addon extends the default GeoDirectory search widget by letting you filter search results by certain custom fields you may have added to your listings. For example if you had added a custom select field “Pet Friendly” you could then filter results that only include pet friendly listings, this could be useful for hotels, café’s, bars etc.
You can also filter by multiple values, you could set up your directory so you could search for “Pet Friendly”, “Free WiFi” listings within 10 miles of the location you enter in the “Near” field.
This plugin also integrates well with our “GeoDirectory Custom Post Types” plugin to allow you to add different filter options per post type and also search per post type.
June 30, 2014 at 5:54 am #6750Hello, In my site when i enter any thing in search for it doesn’t search and gives all listings related to that custom post type.
Eg: I had selected restaurant and in search for i enter Fine Sky Roasted Meat Rest its gives me all the listings. and the url for this is:
Please let me know whats the problem here. Why its not searching as its given in the demo, And also one more problem i facing is of add to favourites. when user is not logged in its redirecting to login first and if the user is log in its give error (Error Loading Listing).
Please Reply ASAP
Thanks & Regards

July 5, 2014 at 3:44 pm #7541swm3 you mentioned about the multiple values you can have as a search option on your site. I would like this on my site but I can’t figure out how to add it in. Any chance you could give me an idea of where to start as I would like this option to narrow down search options. thanks
