Well, surprise, surprise! Believe it or not I actually got a response from Google. You won’t be happy with their response. They insist that it is an issue with GeoDirectory and nothing to do with the maps api. Don’t shoot the messenger.
I understand what you are saying about Google Maps. It’s a major problem with Ecuador. I need to be able to locate businesses in the right location. One, I believe I saw a Google Maps app where you could move the pin to the right location. I remember it was down for months but I believe it’s back up. Secondly, no one going to care about what I call the location. It is important that it’s at the right place. Using Ibarra as an example, at least half the city is cut off. If I see where the error pops up could I then create Ibarra2, and, if so, can I define the parameters of the location? That’s not great because Ibarra2 makes no sense but I don’t see any other option.
I just watched the video for the Location Manager. Unless I missed it I didn’t see where I could correct the area of a city such as Ibarra, which is clearly wrong.
I’m looking at the memberships and they “includes all add-ons” but I seem to remember one of the ones we needed was a third party add-on. Is there anywhere to see exactly what addons are included?
Thanks. I reported the issue to Google but you never get a response from them. Would it work if I changed the location to the province and is that possible?
Who defines the city area? I am trying to place markers well inside Ibarra but I keep getting the error message that send me back to a location in the city core.
Surprise, surprise! I actually figured it out and it looks pretty good.
I hope you will permit me one more question. I know you must have run into this before but I can’t find any information on it. This particular site, IbarraToday.info is obviously about Ibarra, Ecuador so I set the default location as Ibarra, Imbabura, Ecuador. The problem is that I have several listings that are just outside Ibarra. When I try to set their location on the map I get an error message and the marker is brought back to Ibarra. I’ve tried using the closest town. I’ve tried dragging the marker to the location but nothing works.
Appreciate your help, as always.
Yes, that worked. I have tried for an hour now to also change the boring grey background color on the categories at the top of the page and the search bar, with no luck. They would be better even with a white background.
Appreciate your help, as always.
Unfortunately the CSS for the background color changed the entire site. Is there a way to just have it affect the directory?
The color worked. Thank you. Yes, I found the markers, finally.
Another question. On this site – http://www.otavalotoday.info/ I had added some of the place categories to the Business Directory menu. That was fine but I suddenly have two additions to the end of the main menu – Listing and Add Listing which I did not specify anywhere and are not showing in the menu when I try to edit the menus. If I am going to allow people to add their own listings I would like these selections to show up under the Business Directory selection. How do I move them if I can’t see them?
Appreciate your help, as always.
This reply has been marked as private.Obviously I would prefer just Baños but if this is what I need to do make the mapping work then I’ll live with it. Thanks for your help.
I wanted anyone to be able to add their own listing without joining the site. Is this not possible?
On the address thing I just wondered why the Google Map comes up perfectly for them on one of the hostel sites?
It is preferable to just use Banos and not the longer name if that is possible. Again, the other site showed it as just Banos.
Appreciate if you can answer my other questions.
