This doesn’t seem to be the case.
I have restored from backup, created a category without the “&” sign and run import. Not i don’t have a “&” sign in the category and the problem still exist.
So i disabled all plugins (also WPML) except those from gd, that doesn’t help.I am still using the GD Avada child template, perhaps that’s the problem ?
I can i get rid of it! i have made the required changes to the header.Can some one take another look?

also it seems that differend stars are used for the widget so they also need to be changed.

Yes, a menu had to be created first. Also a different header type needs to be selected in the avada theme header settings because else the add listing and change location didn’t show.
I want to keep the sample data addresses and not set it to default location.
Why is there a default location ? when will it be used ?
