    @guust

    1) Definitely want to be notified anytime a submission is made…free or paid, so no issues with the email notifications.

    2) Default status is to be set to “Draft.”

    3) This is a little clunky too. If you have both paid and free listings, you have to bounce between the Places/CPT section and the GD>Payments section. It would at least be helpful if a little number alert popped up, like when there are theme/plugin updates, to signify the number of new submissions that need attention.

    4) Actual, when publishing, the status still shows UnPaid. If that’s correct behavior, that’s an added hassle as well, to change the status and then publish.

In my mind, the ideal handling is something like this:
    – submission made
    – if Free, set to Pending Review
    – if Paid confirmed, set to Pending Review
    – if Paid unconfirmed, set to Draft
(then we know we need to research this within the respective payment provider to understand whether it was abandoned or paid but confirmation didn’t come through…might be good to if something could signify which provider for anyone using more than a single payment processor)

Or if custom statuses could be created for Pending Review – Free, Pending Review – Paid, Pending Review – Unconfirmed, which might give admins the ability to use the Draft status for any they create and take manual payment, etc.

And then have a counter appear in the Admin sidebar for the total number Pending Review.

    @ Stiofan

Was just doing a test and noticed the description listed as:

    http://example.com/wp – post_title

It doesn’t appear that the post title is being sent over. It might also be good if the package name could be included in the description as well, that way it has specific context to what the lister selected…Basic vs. Deluxe, Basic vs. Basic with Monthly Recurring Payments, etc.

Also, is there a way to just pass the site URL rather than the where WordPress is placed, such as in the above example where it is placed in a folder off the root?

Interesting way to look at it. I agree to some extent. Ideally I agree some kind of an “internal” promotion manager with set dates and other features would be ideal, especially if it could be offered in a package as well…free appears on your site, tier 1 appears within your category, tier 2 appears on up to 2 related categories of your choice, tier 3 appears sitewide via a widget, kind of thing.

In my case, I’m going to try to encourage listers to take a more proactive approach here, testing and changing offers, etc….but your scenario is certainly not unlikely at least in some cases as well.

Thanks. I know there is a lot of complexity here based on some of my ideas, but if you can figure it out, even part way, I think this could be extremely powerful.

Interesting as I run iThemes Security and Wordfence both and haven’t come across any issues yet. If there is a conflict, it would be great to find out “the specific rule” if possible.

Or was it in combination with a specific search, phrase or characters maybe?

    Stiofan,

While a widget might have uses, I think what I’m talking about is broader, more universal in scope. That wouldn’t really help with filtering search results.

Currently, with the “Special Offers” field that is setup, it gives businesses a chance to list any offers or deals they have…great feature and extra value.

That can be turned on for searching and sorting, which should be great value to the end user. I think the issue is that the end user wants to see “all listings that have special offers,” rather than “let me think of an offer to search for and hope there is a match.” But do I search for “buy one, get one free” or “BOGO” or “2 for 1”?

It’s really less about search and more about filtering on all listings, or all listings that match a search, that also meet a criteria, in this case, has special offers.

I think the special offers is a perfect example, but the idea of a true/false, empty/not empty boolean kind of functionality could be applied in other cases as well.

Conceptually, what I’m thinking is that for any custom field in the advanced search you have a toggle “search on field value or boolean (checked/not empty)”.

I realize there’s more to it than that which is why I just tried to create a checkbox field to go along with the special offers text field. It’s a little clunky as the lister needs to remain to check or uncheck as they add or remove offers. I thought it would work at least until I saw that after it had been checked and then later unchecked, a line now appeared on the listing page entry showing it as “Special Offers:No”. That’s gonna get real cluttered looking after awhile. The ideal there would be for a message or flag to appear only if the condition is true, “Has Specials”, but nothing appears when false.

    Does that all make sense?

This kind of functionality would add a lot of capabilities to really highlight listings and call out and special or relevant details on listings.

Yeah, set that up again on mine and seems fine. I seem to remember some GD URLs where the blog folder started to show up, but I think that was due to some URL and multi-location issues that have been resolved now…so probably was an indirect issue.

    thanks

@Simone, thanks. I had that before and Guust switched it back. We were trouble shooting at the time and perhaps the issue wasn’t related. Worth trying again though.

    Great, thanks Guust.

Ideally, I think it would be great not to have to create a separate field for the special offers…seems like it should be a boolean search to begin with…”who has specials” kind of thing.

Beyond that though, it would really make the custom fields, listing, and search functions more powerful if there was an option on the custom fields with this in mind…appear if true, nothing if false.

@purpleedge, thanks, pretty slick; only minor testing on my part as well.

@sfamilia, easy enough to test out since it is all CSS based. I recommend trying to code, commenting out different parts to get a feel for how it changes the look. You can experiment with the “max-height” as well to your taste.

Definitely test as a “user”…in other words, try make sure you have some test listings that have both landscape and portrait images, as well as loaded up with both larger initial resolutions and smaller ones to get a feel for how everything displays.

Being CSS, it’s all presentation so there’s no harm, no foul, and can always be tweaked or undone later if you see something you don’t like.

Okay, understand. Let me ask this though.

I’m seeing my images being scaled down to 800×600, even though what was uploaded was quite a bit larger.

Is there a specific setting in WP/GD that is dictating that? I get that it might be varied, but just wondering if there is a setting somewhere that would help me maximize the opportunity for images to fill the space, even though ultimately it will still be dependent on the actual images uploaded.

FYI, I’m still seeing the larger count of all events in the Categories widget, including past events. Confirmed that 1.04 is installed.

Just to follow up…took a look at the Front-End Users plugin I mentioned above. It actually looks pretty slick and easy, but unfortunately, don’t think it will work for GD…it actually creates and stores the users in a completely separate table than the regular WP users table.

That of course might be a really good thing on a “regular” WP site.
