Enfold has a “Display Everywhere” widget container for sidebars. However, it doesn’t seem to be pulled into the GD pages. I don’t know if there is a way, but it would be great if that could be pulled in on the GD pages as well, and in addition to any GD specific sidebars.
One challenge is whether it would be pulled in first or after any GD specific sidebars. Ideally, for greatest flexibility, there would be a global setting for the admin between first or last. This would greatly simplify widget management as any “site-wide” widgets could be placed once in the Display Everywhere container.
August 11, 2014 at 7:51 pm in reply to: Release of GD Core 1.1.8, Multilocations 1.0.8, GDF 1.0.5, Claim Listing 1.0.3 #11674ETA on next update?
I had read somewhere that there would be an update last Monday, then this Monday, but so far haven’t seen anything or at least it isn’t “registering” in WP that any are available.
I know a lot has been worked on and hopefully fixed over the last few weeks. At this point, it is a little challenging…with what is believed to be an impending update, I think some may be hesitant to take the time to report issues that may well already have been addressed.
Personally, I’ve hit a 2 week countdown till launch, so don’t want to see another week go by waiting for an update when I need to start to focus on what features are workable, work-around-able, or simply need to be hidden for now, as well as all of the final design and integration with other plugins, email configuration, etc.
Cheers,
BrianAdmittedly I have little experience so far with WordPress…mostly converted a couple of my sites over awhile back and now starting up a new one with GD.
I have both Wordfence and iThemes Security on sites. I’m also no expert on either of these and really need to take some time to look over all of the configuration options, but so far have not had any issue from these with any of my sites.
What I have been able to do though is rely on them to help further secure my sites, alert me and even automatically block hacking attempts, and these are on sites that most likely float well below the radar…purely automated, bot crawler scripts, so it gives me a real appreciation what a site with any strong authority and notoriety goes through.
As always, it’s rarely a black and white answer, but somewhere along a line of 256 shades of gray.
Cheers,

Yes, well, maybe. I created custom widgets via the AMR shortcode any widget plugin. Are you talking about an Enfold native method of doing this? Would love to do this and have one less plugin. But yes, so far I’ve been playing with a new custom homepage by using AMR with GD widgets (hope to avoid that once shortcodes are available) combined with Avia advanced editor.
@paolo
I’m not sure it is possible either…still fairly new to WP in general, but the ability to create a page as a template and then use Avia and shortcodes to easily create custom “dynamic” page templates for listing and detail pages would be huge. Actually, a great feature that I’m surprised hasn’t been built into WP to begin with…talk about further catapulting it beyond anything else out there!I’m not a developer either, and while I’ve taken a peek at some of those files, I’m not sure I’ve been able to make heads-or-tails of any of it yet.
One suggestion though around the virtual pages: would be good if there was a way to include a note somehow, set the user to Geodirectory or something to help alert people that those pages need to be there. Seems like a number of people have accidentally deleted them, modified them, etc. This is especially easy when you are experimenting between different products, themes, etc., and at that point, no longer sure “what” created “which” pages.
Cheers,
BrianPaolo, I hear you. In my previous lives I have been a product manager for office products as well as software for SEO.
It’s never easy.
That’s also why I always try to take a step back and think about everything from a broader perspective, not just my individual scenario.
And I know it’s not always easy, especially if the comments seem degrading or attacking “your baby,” but I think the team does a good job of being receptive to the community here, acknowledging when an improvement can be made…in the end that fosters more communication, involvement, and ultimately, a better product for all.
Cheers,
BrianI agree with all three of you, at least based on the idea that your choice is preferred, given circumstances. I think this was an excellent demonstration of “it depends.”
Ideally, and in this day and age, any solution should hopefully be mobile friendly.
Beyond that, I think this would ultimately benefit from an admin configuration/selection from the UI because it really varies whether you have 5 locations, 25 locations, or 1050. So one “ideal solution” on one site is a nightmare on another.
Cheers
I’d be fine with that as well. I think it is the in between with no indication that there are other cities/regions/countries is where the confusion sets in.
Yes, savvy users will most likely see the text box and start typing the location they are interested in, but I think it is just as easy even for savvy users to “overlook” the text box.
And not representing any locations is easier to account for in design.
Actually, this would be a nice, and I thought somewhat surprising absence, to GD to begin with. And the less “hacking” means a lot less issues trying to keep everything working.
Any feedback on this?
Cheers Guust. The strange part here is that it actually was working quite fine up until recently.
Excellent, somehow I totally missed that before. So now we have some idea what is happening. The image is an image, taken and saved by my phone. That naming pattern, as was the case now I see with the other images that had issues included periods within the name.
The file name technically was: 2014-07-04 11.47.49.jpg
Personally, if I was posting for real, I wouldn’t knowingly use filenames with periods or spaces in them. The reality is, most users may not notice or realize, and with phones probably well outpacing cameras now for digital photos, this will be a common issue.
The question then is whether this is a WP upload issue or a GD upload issue?
Cheers,
BrianThis reply has been marked as private.Just wanted to circle back and update this.
For my case, I think I came up with a work around.
Since emailing directly from the site/server, in these days of heavy, “shoot first ask questions later” spam filtering, etc., is going to be, I’m planning on routing emails through another provider anyway…perhaps a combination of Gmail and/or AmazonSES, MailChimp, etc.
So, in adding the Mail Bank plugin, it has allowed me to setup SMTP routing through a Gmail account (note: I couldn’t get SSL to work, but did get TLS to work) and I have been sending and getting system emails now.
Hope this helps anyone else having any issues.
Cheers,
BrianVikas,
Mostly just been pulling dummy images from a Dropbox folder that were taken with my smartphone. Here is a random sampling…
Cheers,
Brian*scratch that, images are all about 1MB, so can’t upload here as they exceed the limit.
