@alex, thanks for the reply. I’ve modified the archive pages to use all 3 available GD Loop features. Still, no luck unless I include a tag or category filter. The map in the sidebar appears to be correct though.
@Kor, would you still like access to the backend to poke around?
Thanks Guust… Any idea how long this hasn’t been working and what caused it? ;(
This reply has been marked as private.I hope others speak up. Hey WPGeoDirectory users – do you want neither, either or both?
1) For the nearby tab of the detail page: An option to select a geographical radius range (in km/mi) for the paginated nearby list of places. (we’re close now – minus the ability to select the radius geo-radius from the place – and the list is limited to a specific number rather than a paginated list if the number exceeds x)
2) A choice of either “In” or “Nearby” as the default for the listing view. If “In”, only places within a city would be displayed. If “Nearby” the list view would first display places within a city, and then show places near the city based on a administrator defined max distance.
It’s all good brother from another mother. 😉
I think anything we can do to mimic the features of a site like Yelp which has chosen specific methods and behaviors due to research is probably a good thing – provided that we all have access to hardware which can efficiently service the visitors.
And certainly, we all don’t want to be Yelp – but while many of us hate them – they do some things pretty damn well. 😉
This is great. Thank you.
I finally figured it out. I didn’t see the step of unchecking the “Enable location filter on related post.” Doing that made it work.
An additional suggestion would be to add a field in the admin area that would allow us to designate the number of miles/km from the location – allowing us to only display nearby listings that are within x range and paginate them based on the number to display.
Finally, I’d also love to see this as an option on the listing view – as Yelp also shows listings near a city and not explicitly in a city. Or an option to explicitly use Near rather than In for searches.
Thoughts?
I’m unable to get this working. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
Bump…
I set this but I’m not seeing it. Also, are we able to define the distance of what “nearby” is?
Finally, would you please consider adding this to the list view as well? Yelp will list locations in a city first, and then those surrounding that city.
How is this coming along?
Thanks,
JohnGreat – thanks Stiofan… Will this be available in both the listing detail page and also for the city list, so that it will show nearby listings when locked into a city?
For example – (and I know the url structure is different when doing a Near search and choosing a city but)
Rather than show this:
http://www.rinktime.com/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+&snear=&set_location_type=3&set_location_val=1477&sgeodir_facility_type%5B%5D=&sgeo_lat=&sgeo_lon=Never mind, not sure why but it’s working again. You can delete this thread.
