Thanks Guust, but I don’t want to use the claim manager. It’s really just another plugin that the site doesn’t really need.
We all knew that 😀
Thanks both, it’s greatly appreciated.
John that’s fantastic!
Although it’s a little different to what I wanted, it’ll do just fine 🙂
Simone, I hope you learned something here 😉
Thanks both, for your efforts.
As regards John’s answer, it works as I’m sure it was intended to, but has with a link to the author page, which isn’t used on the site.
Is there any way to link it to the author’s wp profile?
Thanks Simone, that works beautifully!
Is there any way to use the display name as a link to the user id profile page?
The listings are but one part of a much larger site, and each user has a custom profile page that I’d like to be able to send other users to if they click the author’s name.
I’m assuming that the_author pulls the name from the user id anyway?
Excuse my lack of knowledge, I’ve found trying to learn this stuff like trying to learn Japanese :/
Either way, I’m pleased with at least being able to display the name 🙂
Just FYI, as I’m not having that problem, I’m using X 2.2.0 and X-Shortcodes 2.3.3 here.
I also don’t have breadcrumbs enabled in the Customizer, in case that’s relevant.
Thanks Guust, I’ve gone with s2member for now, but the sheer size of the plugin does worry me, even though I might only be using the page restriction options.
It does work though, so thanks.
I’d looked at s2member, but I just need page access control and don’t need all the extra bloat that comes with it.
I’m using WP Access Areas, which does its job well but, of course, it can’t control access to pages that don’t actually exist. The best I can do is to set restrictions for every item in GD separately, which will restrict access to the detail page, but that still doesn’t control access to the main listing page.
Although GD is great at what it does, dynamically creating not just page content, but the actual page itself, has it’s drawbacks.
I’ve read a number of posts about shortcode implementation, is that going to be a reality any time soon?
If I had one (very) small complaint, it’s that the button colours (search etc.) aren’t being pulled from the X settings so I still need to style those, otherwise it’s pretty good 🙂
Thanks John!
I can confirm that it works perfectly well for me, using Ethos child theme.
I was using some considerable custom css, but I’ve now removed it all without any problems.
Hi John
I’m not sure what leandorosa means by “weird”, but I’m using Ethos and I had to use some custom css just to get the Dashboard to show properly, so it’s probably not a stack issue.
To be honest, I haven’t found too many other issues with the layout, but I tend to use a ton of custom css anyway, so it’s possible that parts are influenced by css intended for elsewhere.
Greg Mount:
This could be toggled with a checkbox option in the back end: “Check to display multi-day events as a single listing.” Events could be ordered by start date. This wouldn’t apply to recurring events, but would be perfect for events that span multiple days
+1
Hi Vikas
Everything works as it should now, thanks for the great support.
I think the diagnostic tool is a good idea. Mine was a new installation, and I’d seen other threads which mentioned pages being deleted etc., but I knew I hadn’t done that so assumed it was something else.
Cheers
Paul
