    You rock, Paolo!
    Very cool plan.

Don’t know whether this is useful for you, but here’s the strategy how I would use it:

I’m creating a hyperlocal digital travel guide and magazine. (That’s why image portfolios are so important.) I plan to include everything that’s currently scattered among half a dozen other local sites into one comprehensive (huge) hyperlocal site and directory. Hence, the unusual non-business CPTs for Waterfalls, Trails etc.

In order to launch the site and get it in front of Google, I’m working on setting up 2-3 CPTs with 10-20 listings each and the usual supporting pages, while I continue working on more listings and the rest of the content. My first thought was to set up an attractive portfolio page with these 2-3 CPTs while I write articles. Later, I can modify the home page once I have more content to work with, but I don’t want to make Google wait. 🙂 So, the widget would make that a workable idea.

I do have another question about how to get custom images on the top of each individual listing, but I will create a new thread for that.

    Thanks for being awesome!

    Paolo,

    Thanks for rephrasing again.

So, Enfold creates a grid portfolio with each image in the grid an individual listing in your CPT category.

    You’re right — it’s identical.

Whereas I’m thinking of a nice HTML grid with custom images and custom links, one image per each CPT in my directory. For example, one image linking to Trails, one image linking to Waterfalls, one image linking to Mountain Biking etc.

Thanks for clarifying. Thinking cap is back on.

    Thanks for your patience. 🙂

    Aha. Got it.

I’ll think on this for a bit and explore options. My first idea might not be the best way to go about it. I’m at a point where I don’t want to get locked into any idea and I really want to build this site using the available options pretty much out of the box without a lot of customizing.

Even if the Enfold portfolio linked to a single listing, there might be a way to display other listings below it with a shortcode or widget?

Thanks again Paolo. Your insight is valuable.

Thanks for double-checking, Paolo. I’ll look into Enfold.

Not sure what you mean though — portfolios based on posts of 1 or more categories, not a generic CPT?

Can you give me an example to understand what that means please?

Thanks for your help on this.

Hmm. Well, there’s usually a workaround for everything.

What I want is a portfolio of great looking images on the home page that will take you to the individual CPT listing pages when clicked.

Can’t I do that the old-fashioned way, by linking the image to the CPT listing page URL?

    Does that make sense?

    Thanks.

    Hi Paolo,

    That’s a deal breaker.

Do any of the other themes that are compatible with GD offer that kind of integration?

    Can it be custom coded?

Thanks, Simone. I guessed it was something like that. 🙂

Can you educate me on these questions also:

    4. When and how is the location page used? Can it also have other elements added to it?

    5. When and where is the location description used?

    6. What is location neighborhood and how and when is it used?

    Thanks for your kind help.

    After doing more poking around:

    Re question #1:
How would I set a non-GD page, an (Avada) portfolio page, as the home page and add the GD main main map and search at the top?

    Thanks again!

    Hello again,

Please ignore questions #2 and #3, which you answered previously for me.

    Thanks!

    Thank you both.

I think this answers all my questions. Glad to hear I can use interchange the widgets.

I’ll let you know what trips me up next. 🙂

    Thanks again.

Doh. Apologies for bothering you with that. I’m learning my way around and will try for more difficult and less-apparent questions. 😛

    Thanks, Guust. Worked!

What about the additional map at the bottom of the sidebar? Is that fixed permanently as well? (Sorry, just occurred to ask.)
