Thanks, Guust. I already know how to merge locations, however I wondered if there was an easy to find out which locations were obsolete and can be deleted (or merged).
I have several locations which, for some reason or other, don’t have any listings attached to them. For example, Dorset in the UK doesn’t have any listings. I don’t know of any way in GeoDirectory to find and remove these unused locations.
OK, Paulo, thanks for that.
Thanks Guust. The reason for this is that the user was (mis)using keywords with location data. I’m setting up the add listing instructions to make this clearer.
I was able to fix it by going directly into the database. Thanks for the pointer.
I know that the locations need a cleanup. Is there any tool that can remove any locations that don’t have any listings attached to them? There are a bunch of incorrect locations (mainly that use ‘all’) and I fixed the listings for these manually. However I didn’t delete the incorrect location as I did this, I only set the listing to a new, correct location.
It would be great if there was a ‘purge unused locations’ tool. Otherwise the cleanup could take quite a while.
Are there any arguments that we can use with these shortcodes?
For example, I have [geodir_location_switcher] on a page, and this shows all countries, regions, and cities.
How would I make that so it only shows countries?
I thought that would be the case.
Anyway, thanks very much for the help!
Hi Paolo,
That definitely helps. Thank you. I wasn’t aware of what that option would do, but have enabled it now. This is working much better.
What I would love to do would be able to reset the location with links to other urls. For example, if a user gets confused in the geolocation system, if they click on the ‘home’ link I would like it to reset the location.
Another link that, in my genuinely humble opinion, should reset the location would be the breadcrumb links. On the demo site, if you go to Tel Aviv, you will see these breadcrubs:
Home > Places > Israel > Tel Aviv
Clicking on ‘Israel’ will successfully change the user’s location (from Tel Aviv to Israel). However clicking on ‘Places’ and ‘Home’ does not change the location. I think both links should reset the location.
If I wanted to implement this myself, would it be a big custom coding job, or something relatively simple?
+1 on what Stephen says.
It is so important to have an obvious, single click (not hidden in a menu) ‘Everywhere’ button.
OK, thank you. I’ll wait for the fix then : )
Hi Paolo,
Yay, it works! Thank you. I’m starting to feel pleased and happy with the way my website is going.
Best wishes and thanks,

Thanks, Paolo!
1. Thanks Simone for that suggestion. I have never inserted a shortcode into a menu before, using php or otherwise. Had a quick search and it looks like a big can of worms. So for now I will just bite the bullet and set-up my theme to use the Primary Menu.
2. I’ve made things clearer by attaching screenshots.
The first screenshot is the result of using the location switcher: dev.reikiconnect.org/location/thailand/bangkok/bangkok returns zero results.
The second screenshot shows all listings in Bangkok, with url dev.reikiconnect.org/masters-practitioners/thailand/bangkok/bangkok
There are several results. (You can see the post type is ‘Reiki Masters and Practitioners’. This is the only post type on my site.)Have I mis-configured my site? I can see that the GD demo site, if I select a location using the location switcher I do not get a page with zero results (e.g. http://wpgeo.directory/directory/united-states/)
Thanks Simone.
1) That shortcode is for widgets or pages (already testing with that), but I would like the switcher in a menu if possible.
2) That’s already set. As I said, I only have one post type. GD settings > Design > Map Tab > “Default post type search on map” is set to, well, the only post type I have. I checked this, and clicked “save changes”, but selecting ‘India’ from the location switcher still sends me to http://developmentserver/location/india/, and that page still serves zero results.
