Indeed, it would be interesting to have the feedback from a big website using geo queries.
What’s important is scalability, I think. A search can perform a single query pretty quick, but what happens with tens, or hundreds, of concurrent queries on sites with lots of traffic?
Also, in most solutions the geo query is blurring the search accuracy. A visitor could see the less pertinent results first, because they are sorted by distance from is location.
WPSOLR has a solution for that too, with the decay penalty (applied to date freshness, or to distance boost). One can define how much distance is important, compared to accuracy, in results.
We already have a geolocation extension in WPSOLR, to sort efficiently results by radius, thanks to Solr / Elasticsearch lat/long filters. But compared to your features, it is rather crude.
I’m checking right now if there is a possibility to build one or several GeoDirectory extensions in WPSOLR, for your plugin(s) and themes.
This would be a first I think: full geolocation features associated to performance at any scale with Solr / Elasticsearch.
Great.
I’ll be happy to help. But I ‘m sure you’ll be able to manage!
I deactivated your WPSOLR’s trial automatic renewal, and extended the trial for one full year.
My membership order is #585839.
How do you want to proceed to setup WPSOLR ?
Do you have a staging environment ?
