I have found the reason for my issues.
I had customised the search result page to display the ‘Home page map’ instead of the ‘Listing page map’. The ‘Home page map’ is not responsive to the non-autocomplete search functionality, whereas the ‘Listing page map’ is!
Ok, I will investigate further and see if there is something I have done that is preventing the search from working. I will respond again with the outcomes asap.
Apologies for not being clear. Essentially, I am trying to achieve a text search field which functions exactly how it is described on the link you provided me: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-design/#how
I.E. I need a search field in which visitors may enter arbitrary address/location values like “World Trade Center” or “United States” or “California” and be able to see listings within the 40 square miles of that location.
In my case, if I disable Near autocompleter, when I enter values like “World Trade Center”, the map does not zoom in to the entered location and the listings are not limited to within 40 miles of the entered location. Thus it actually appears that if the autocompleter is disabled on the Near field, then it ceases to function at all!
Thanks once again Guust, much appreciated. I have turned that feature off as you have suggested, however now the near search field does not seem to be working at all: http://iyeza.sideclick.co.za/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+
Could you advise if there is another configuration setting I need to change?
Thanks very much for the response Guust. It is encouraging to hear that the ‘near’ search field should work that way and the documentation you have directed me to describes exactly what I need. However I am finding that the ‘Near’ search field is not working in that way. Rather, I am finding that the ‘Near’ field is working as an autocompleter which matches against cities and countries stored in the local GeoDirectory database.
This is the site I am working on: http://iyeza.sideclick.co.za/?geodir_search=1&stype=gd_place&s=+
You can see that I have hidden all search fields except for the ‘Near’ field. The autocompleter will match against cities that we have in our database, for example: ‘Cape Town’.
Please let me know if there is something I am missing or a different configuration I should be using?
