Update: from my research over this day I’ve figured out I need a separate static page for my home:
And GD Home + Location are the same (right?), which is set now to:
http://stay-boutique.com/stay/
The above URL is the overall ‘Location’ page of the site, which I run the shortcodes on. I’ve set the Location page slug as stay (for that URL) and setting Location to use Location page under GD > Permalinks.
Is this best practice? Or should I be setting GD Home slug to ‘stay’ for the URL and just running everything off the GD Home page? (in simpler terms should this URL run the Location or the GD Home? http://stay-boutique.com/stay/). Or does it not matter because they are identical?
Wasn’t sure and this is confusing to me.
Also, now that I’ve sort of figured that stuff out, I still would like to know if it’s possible to connect up the CPT listings to the Location section.
So on http://stay-boutique.com/stay/ we have the Locations listed out using the shortcode, and it would be awesome to have the listings of Hotels appear in that section when you click each link.
Right now, if you click anything e.g. ‘Australia’, the page reloads with the results and it just puts some text into the search bar (In: Australia (country)) and then user has to click ‘Search’ to then see all Hotels in that location. Seems not a good user experience. Any way to essentially connect the two sections up somehow?
Currently the url structure http://stay-boutique.com/hotels/xxx/xxx/xxx/
Is the only way to bring up list of Hotels in whatever location. Obviously we want to merge this behavior with Locations.
More information for clarity:
– We are using GD Home Page as our front page: http://stay-boutique.com and utilizing GD Home widgets to show the ‘Featured’ list and Instagram feed, etc. We are using Location for our Location page. I’m now reading some info that these may be the same thing? Very confusing (see attached screenshot).
– We have Hotels CPT.
– http://stay-boutique.com/location/ is showing widgets from the home page. We want it to have a list of all locations which then link out to show all Hotels in that selection e.g. user selects ‘Australia’ and show a page of all Hotels CPT in Australia.
I have resolved this issue. It had to do with another plugin being out of date. Sorry to have wasted your time.
Is there any way to avoid needing to give you full admin access? This is a client website.
They are searching at the top of the specific post type page, which is what you are referencing. It’s a weird bug.
Attached is a screenshot of where they are searching.
