An update on the map situation. I can now see the following changes.. they seemed to appear after waiting a couple of hours and coming back to it! But it’s still not quite right, the text is now too far down and covering the search part. Please see the screenshot.
I’ve tried altering the numbers in the code, but nothing I do seems to make any changes at all. Even when I take the code out completely, nothing changes, it’s like it’s got a time delay! I even tried clearing my cookies and nothing seems to help. :/
Thanks for looking Paolo 🙂
I still seem to be having some kind of map issues. I created a sample listing at http://www.thehouseofdog.co.uk/dog-friendly-pubs/united-kingdom/nottinghamshire-1/nottingham-1/the-bread-and-bitter-at-mapperley/#post_map but the map doesn’t display. It also doesn’t show up in the /dogfriendly url map, and no listing shows either, even under the ‘dog friendly pubs’ post type. I checked and the listing is published, so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong?
Also, despite having custom field tick boxes to show there are dog bowls and food is available, they are not showing in the listing (they were ticked when adding the listing). I’m sure I must have done something wrong here. Should they show in the front end?
Another question (sorry!) Is it possible to make all links nofollow within the directory? I think this is pretty important both for my SEO and the businesses which list on the directory. With my wpmu directory, they gave me a plugin which made all http/https links clickable and automatically nofollow. This seems to work across pretty much the entire website, even in articles and blog posts, but it doesn’t seem to work for my geodirectory links. Perhaps this is because they’re already links and don’t need to be made ‘clickable’? Is there a way to get them all nofollow, including social media links and website links etc?
Agreed about the amount of plugins, I’ve been experimenting a lot recently with directory plugins to find something better than the wpmu one, but now I’ve found geodirectory, I’ve deleted what I can and disabled the rest. I have to transfer some listings over once this one’s all set up correctly so I can’t completely delete some just yet.
Thanks again for your help 🙂

Hi Paolo
Thanks for the advice 🙂
I did think and think the system out, but I still may have got it wrong?
The reason I used the custom post types in the way I did in the end was because I need different custom fields for each of those types of post, for instance holiday accommodation will need a ‘number of bedrooms’ ‘number of people it sleeps’ question etc, whereas pubs will need different questions answered, such as whether or not they serve food, provide a water bowl for visiting dogs etc.
If I’m working it out correctly, I can’t set each category to have different questions can I? It has to be different post types if I want to do this?
With regards to the map, if you look at the screenshot, you can see what I’m seeing on my pc. On mine the width is correct, I’m using Chrome on a modern widescreen laptop. But you must be using something else… Is there a standard width which will fit all screens and browsers or is it all just a case of guessing?
Also, I added the CSS (thank you for the code, I really don’t understand CSS!) but it doesn’t seem to have made any changes. I tried increasing the border-right, margin and padding to see if that helped, and I also tried increasing the map height, but it still looks the same to me?
Thanks for your help 🙂
Hi Vikas
I can’t see any ‘update required’ notification against it in the plugins list, I only downloaded it yesterday and installed by uploading it manually. Is there a new version since then?
Thanks
Sally
Thank you 🙂

Thanks Paolo, I’ll keep an eye out 🙂 Just working my way through setting up, apologies for the amount of questions I keep having to ask, I hope I’m not driving everyone mad! I do try to work things out myself, but sometimes I just can’t! :/
Ah ok, the 1 star, 2 star thing makes sense now, thanks! Sorry I’m a little slow, takes some time for me to get my head around these things sometimes lol
Hmm a translation file is something I’ve never heard of before. But if it will change the listing title and listing description on all custom post types, that wouldn’t really work anyway. I just wanted to make it clear to people that they should add for instance the ‘pub name’ here and the ‘accommodation name’ in the accommodation custom post type title etc, but not to worry, hopefully they will know by ‘listing title’ what to put in there… I think I try to over-simplify things for people too much sometimes! 🙂
I’ll just take the ‘pub name’ one out and leave listing title.
Thanks again for all your super fast and down to earth help, a huge difference to what I’ve been used to in the past with the other company I purchased plugins from! 😀
I just wondered how come on mine it lists the categories on my site, but on the demo site it lists the star ratings. I thought maybe there might be a way to change it, but I guess it’s ok how it is anyway 🙂
I’m just trying to set up my custom fields for a custom post type, I want users to have the option to ‘Add pub name’ rather than use the ‘Listing title’ option, so I added a ‘pub name’ text field, but the ‘listing title’ and ‘listing description’ fields still appear there. Is there a way to either remove them or rename them? I can’t seem to see them in the custom fields list to do anything with them..
Thanks 🙂
Sally
P.S. How do I change that little bit on the ribbon on the map which lets you select by rating on the demo, but category on my site?
Can’t seem to get the map on /accommodation to work at all at the moment, but I’ve got it the right shape. Maybe I’m missing some other vital part before it actually works lol
Lol my husband says the same thing 😉
At least you can read my mind better than he can!
Ahh thank you Guust, now that makes so much more sense now! Plus you’ve answered loads of other questions I had in my head lol 🙂

Me again, not sure whether you prefer me to start this in a new topic or not? But since adding the add ons, my page I was setting up at http://www.thehouseofdog.co.uk/dogfriendly/ seems to have lost all its styling, it’s kind of all in one row.
Please could you tell me what is the best way of getting this page to look basically like the one on your demo site, but with the header used on my homepage at http://www.thehouseofdog.co.uk ? I don’t want to lose the ‘news’ type feel of the site overall, but do want the directory to be a big part of the site, not just hidden away.
I installed and previewed Geodirectory theme framework and the child one and did do a live preview, but it made everything currently on the site into one long list, with the blog posts just all opened up in full. I didn’t activate it because I didn’t want to destroy what I’ve already made or make the site look a mess, it’s being used by people right now, so I can’t really do that. I’m unsure if there is a way I can play around with the theme and save options whilst not making actual live changes to the site?
What would you recommend as the best way forwards here? I think getting that /dogfriendly page all set up with the map as the main focus as in the demo would be best, then having directory widgets running down the right hand side on the homepage to get the traffic there.
I’m just not sure what’s gone wrong with /dogfriendly ? Is it because installed the add ons or because I previewed the theme?
Thanks again for your help
Sally

Oh phew! Updating the core plugin fixed it! Didn’t realise there was an update, silly me.
Thanks for the quick response! 🙂
