Hi Stiofan,
Thanks for your help! So basically – the instructions provided in the first link you gave me do NOT apply to GeoTravel, is that correct? And Genesis Home Top IS used, but it appears that GD Home Top does nothing – also correct?
I appreciate your help – should be good now on the home page… just need to tackle learning Geodirectory now. I may be back for more help… 🙂
Thank you!
Kym
This reply has been marked as private. While I’m awaiting a reply, I’m still trying to work this out myself. In searching, I found the following forum post and reply regarding the same issue: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/geo-travel-create-similar-homepage-like-demop/
So I tried using Customize > Home Background – but no avail. Nothing shows up. So then I thought maybe the GD Home Top widget needed to have some content in it for the background to show. I added a text widget with content. The content showed up, but still no background image.
Then I tried the Genesis Home Top widget. Nothing at all showed up on this one?? What IS the difference between GD Home Top widget and Genesis Home Top widget?
For that matter – should I be using the GD widgets, or the Genesis widgets, for setting up the home page? Some are duplicated, some are not…
The forum post I linked to above mentions a test account to try out GeoTravel – but that link no longer works. Any chance a copy of the demo could be placed somewhere to log into? That would be just as effective as documentation.
Thanks Stiofan,
Ok, that helped to at least get the home page to show up, but I’m still really just not clicking with how to set this up like the GeoTravel demo. Is there any documentation for the *theme* itself?
I’ve set the home page as you instructed. I’ve imported demo content. I’ve put my own dummy text into text widgets for just about all of the home page widgets, trying to figure out what displays where.
I cannot figure out how to have a custom image display where the map is, like shown in the demo. I removed the map widget. I tried using the Customizer under Customize > Home Background. I tried adding a Featured Image to the GD Home Page (which the home page is set to). I tried adding an image to the body of the GD Home Page. THat at least showed up, but not at the top of the page under the navigation, nor is it full width.
Short of hard-coding in the image using CSS, I can’t figure out how to get an image to display like the demo.
Furthermore, even though I have added text widgets with temporary text for Home Featured Left and Home Featured Right, those widgets are not appearing anywhere on my home page. I want to use those as overlays over the custom image… again, just like the demo.
In examining the code for the demo, it appears that Genesis’s Home Featured Left and Home Featured Right widgets are used for the two widget areas appearing over top of the custom image in the Demo. Yet I can’t get them to display (or the custom image, for that matter). At least I know now that your demo does use both the GD widget areas and Genesis widget areas interchangeably, which was another question.
Appreciate any help you can give to get the lightbulb to click for me.
