Awesome! I notice the breadcrumb still says “Add listing”. I’m not sure if that’s an Avada or GD matter, but it would be great to be consistent.
Well yes, that will work. Thanks. 🙂
That’ll work. Thanks!
OK, thanks.
Yes that was it. I added the packages after I’d imported the dummy data, and didn’t realize that GeoDirectory reset all the existing places to the default package I’d set up, which as you pointed out, is set to display 0 characters. Thanks.
This reply has been marked as private.Well, thank you. FYI, I ran GD Tools > GD Pages Check before I even posted, and the GD Home Page was listed as ok but obviously not visible. I don’t know why your running it worked, when it didn’t for me! Maybe a cache issue with WPEngine?
In any case, it is all working now and it sure makes more sense when I can actually see the page and page choice! Thanks again.
Once again, the problem is that I do not have an option “GD Home” in the pulldown menu under GD > Permalinks > GD Home or under Settings > Reading. One clearly does exist because it shows up on your page here: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/basic-installation/#home
But again, I do not see an option “GD Home” in my installation.
This reply has been marked as private. That’s the problem: there is no option for GD Home Page under GD > Permalinks. I’ve attached a screenshot but I can’t capture the whole pull down menu. As you can see there is “Home” which is the page I created, but no “GD Home Page”.
Wow, editing the description to include the title is so easy, and “doh!” I missed that option entirely. Thanks, that looks like it will work.
Well, like I said, I need to list *all* the categories in some places. The Popular Post Category widget will be useful in some places later, but not what I need right now. So I’ll get to coding – thanks.
Simone, the issue is that I wanted to put widgets in a non-widgetized area. Apparently there’s no way within Avada to do this so I tried this plugin,
https://wordpress.org/plugins/amr-shortcode-any-widget/
which seems to be working. It allows me to create a shortcode for the GD widget and insert that in non-widgetized areas in AvadaI had this exact question and was happy to find the answer, so I set up an Avada home page unticked the box making GeoDirectory the home page and then realized that there is no (obvious) way to put widgetized content in a main content area on the page – only the sidebar (and footer, etc) is widgetized.
Simone made it sound like I *should* be able to use GD widgets in pages, and I’ve read other posts here that indicate one purpose of the Avada child theme is to allow that. But if it’s possible I can’t figure out HOW. Could someone describe the process and/or any safe workarounds?
December 30, 2014 at 6:18 pm in reply to: Questions on Avada Child Theme & Compatibility Plugin #25876Yes, I saw the functions file was empty. My main concern was that if I added to it, my changes would be overridden by future updates. I saw the header file and good to know that’s the main reason for the child theme. You’ve added a few CSS rules too.
I looked at the compatibility plugin and it looks like it doesn’t refer to your child theme by name. So maybe the best idea is for me to create a new child theme with my own name, move the header and your CSS rules over and then make my other customizations there. Then I have your unactivated child theme as reference and if you update it in the future I can just copy over the files/rules. Does that seem like it will work?
