This is just a follow up for problem solving of users who read this thread:

• Problem description over chat:
Using the world city data of Kevin and activating within database, then by using the mulicity dropdown the system crashes by showing “gateway failure” in browser after a long time…

• Answer from Stiofan within chat:
Users can add a city when needed. You can add a place to anywhere in the world and it will then enter the location info at the same time.

Q: I thought it has to be prior setup as same as geotheme was forced that
A: I would not add all location info, as it might be slightly diffrent than what google returns and will cause duplicate cities. Even importing a place via CSV will add a location if it’s not in the DB.

Q: What is when the user implement a wrong name of city e.g. region of Leipzig is Sachsen and in english it is saxony. Is then the system choosing the right name?
A: You have to set your maps to use one language e.g. english is prefered, and then draggin the marker or clicking sett address on map should fix cities names. If someone does create a wrong city then you can merge two cities.

Q: How do I have to setup this?
A: if you have a small directory you can add your own cities and have google not set anything. You can also limit what cities can be selected etc.

Q: Again about the world city data – let’s say there will be a big amount of entries with cities made within the engl. site. Which would be much more amount of actual implemented entries from Kevins data. Will this then not cause the same problem with the gateway failure?
A: it shoudl not, only a few are pulled at a time. I don’t understand what problem you are having but if u run into it we will fix it

Q: That is exactly what I need from you – it is a GO for it to be and make sure that the system will be stable working even with a big data amount….

the world city data come from Kevin. I was thinking according to former GT version to be forced to use world city data with cities, region and country geo data to be implemented prior that the user is able to choose the according city of his location he would like to add.

What I do not understand is:
After implementing the world city files, the system should work like finding the chosen city on the map, even if no listings of place, etc. are existing (no records found). But instead of finding the location on the map there is only a grey field without beeing able to scale the map. e.g. Hamburg (screen shot – http://screencast.com/t/xvakQ2t1MO )

On mobile usage, then the save problem occur. By choosing a city the browser stuck and after a long time getting the gateway failure again. (screen shot – http://screencast.com/t/jqjML8xow )

Actually it seems to me, that when it comes to a big volume of city data and later implemented listings, that the system is not stable working any more. Please advice how to go further to solve this problem to avoid later big volume problems and to start even by using the world city files!

thanks getting back to me. I prior have done these steps but want to use the navigation Location switcher e.g. as a widget to place where ever I want or even by add the switcher dropdown to ubermenu.

Is there a code available or how would I be able to do this?

1. Yes sure, put me on your beta list, but need to proceed furhter too!
So please provide me with some instructions to go the right way.

2. If I use former GT database and delete GeoTheme Theme on my webspace and within the Database the entries of multicity, multiregion, multicountry files, would I then be able to proceed further with geodirectory using old database and not to be disturbed from old GT entries?

3. Post custom fields – what will happen with these former entries, are they usable within GD?

4. Place categories – what will happen with these former entries, are they usable within GD?

5. Event categories – what will happen with these former entries, are they usable within GD?

6. Managed Prices – what will happen with these former entries, are they usable within GD?
