add custom field to search widget ?

i’m adding a custom multiselect (checkboxes) field called Vendor Type (thanks for having the custom field feature, great!)

vendor types will be:

wholesale
retail
distributor

is there a way to add this Vendor Type custom select field to the search widget such that a site visitor could select which type of vendor they want in addition to the type of product they are looking for?

for example, if the visitor were looking for wholesalers of boots, then they would select Wholesaler in the vendor type search select box, then enter “boots” in the text search box, and then only wholesalers of boots would be displayed

would help visitors find exactly what they are searching for
