I was told by Swiftype that their WP plugin can power location-based directories like GD via custom API.
They suggested to look at this:
https://github.com/Nevon/swiftype-phpHere’s their site:
https://swiftype.com/wordpressThey also have it here:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/swiftype-search/Please let me know how much it will cost to seamlessly integrate it on GD. I like to have another search option for users at the header. Perhaps a universal search that will index listings and all content including street addresses, cities, regions, zips, countries, etc.
Another option is AddSearch but I am not sure if they are better than Swiftype.
August 16, 2014 at 12:34 am #12225Hi Manilaboy, what exactly are you hoping to achieve?
You need to describe the functionality exactly, it is too hard to guess by looking at the solutions you listed.
As I mentioned in your feature request, the Enfold theme already has this. But then you said you wanted distance information?
August 16, 2014 at 12:40 am #12227Hi Mr. Purpleedge,
Thank you for your interest. You can see some search examples here:
http://www.yellowpages.com
http://www.agentsforless.com
http://www.agentsforless.com/search_results/ (left sidebar)I don’t know if developers will respond on this thread so I will also ask around. 🙂
August 16, 2014 at 12:48 am #12231Hi Manilaboy,
If these plugins do what you want, try them.
Otherwise, describe what you want, examples aren’t much use to a developer.
August 16, 2014 at 12:54 am #12232I think it can be easily understood by looking at the examples and looking how Swiftype works. By default, it indexes posts but not locations in a separate table. I tested it already on my GD site and it works.
Per Swiftype staff, the API option can be used to index location tables as well.
In short, a universal search that enables them to search for anything with just 1 or 2 input fields. For example, “Plumber Los Angeles” or “Babysitter 90210” without being restricted in a single location or CPT.
I think it will be a great GD Header Right widget. 🙂
August 16, 2014 at 4:02 am #12235Like this (Look at top corner)?
http://www.bookhinterland.com.au/
[search for “cedar” for example]August 16, 2014 at 4:11 am #12236I think he wants to search for “cedar 4560” i.e. description and address fields
August 16, 2014 at 4:11 am #12237Hi Guust,
I tried zip code 4272:
http://www.bookhinterland.com.au/?s=4272
Is it Swiftype by the way?
August 16, 2014 at 4:17 am #12238That is ordinary old-fashioned, no additives added, WP search.
You will find the “Search” widget at Appearance. It seems it does not search the custom fields, but maybe that is just a tweak to the WP search function.
August 16, 2014 at 4:19 am #12240Hi Guust, sorry off-topic but how have you set up gift vouchers, is it just a Paypal button, or some sort of plugin?
August 16, 2014 at 4:19 am #12241Yes, Guust. it doesn’t search locations too.
@purpleedge, did you check Jeff’s Voucher plugin at GeoTheme (GD version coming) and also Voucher Press at WP.org?
August 16, 2014 at 4:45 am #12247@ Purple
Just PayPal vouchers, nothing else.
https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_giftcard-intro-outsideAugust 16, 2014 at 4:53 am #12250Thanks Guust, I have a lister who wants vouchers for his business, this is probably the easiest/best way to let him add them – keeps me out of they way, might need to update T&C so it’s clear who’s providing the voucher? (I’m guessing a lister wouldn’t be able to paste a Paypal button into their “Special Offers” tab??)
Hi Manilaboy, I haven’t checked out Jeff’s vouchers yet – too many other things to worry about at this stage ;_)
August 16, 2014 at 4:56 am #12251I’m guessing a lister wouldn’t be able to paste a Paypal button into their “Special Offers” tab??
Why not if you make it a HTML field?
Have not tried, but can’t see why it would not be possible?August 16, 2014 at 5:01 am #12252Worth a try 🙂
