As I understand it, GD temporarily assigns a user the role of Author to enable them to add a GD listing, then sets role back to Subscriber (or whatever role they previously had).

Is it possible for users to be assigned a custom role when they add a listing?
I’d like to be able to automate user segregation in the backend so I can see who has added a listing and who is a regular site subscriber.

    Hi,

GD doesn’t do any of that, it simply allows subscribers to add and edit listings too. Changing role only to users who submits a listing will require a customization.

    Thanks

    OK, thanks for the clarification.
I’ll add this as a feature request.

You can achieve that with a membership plugin like s2Member, so you create 2 different users levels: user and “listing owner”.
Then only allow listings to access the Add Listing form.
