Best Practices for Managing Custom Taxonomies across blog posts and listings

I created some custom taxonomies, thinking I’d link them to my directory listings and blog posts, and then also leverage them for faceted search with facetwp. But it looks like the form for listings will only use custom fields. I didn’t see anything that would include linked taxonomies.

I just looked at the plugin for custom post types, and that didn’t seem like it would solve the problem either.

Are there any best practices here someone could point me to? It seems like there are so many tools available, that I’m probably just not looking at the problem the right way.
