Hi, I am currently setting up the database for a bulk import using csv.

I have a few places that do not have an address listed. These are in home businesses that do not wish to have their addresses listed. How do I include these? They are already in the database, is this something I am going to have to exclude because of lack of address and latitude/longitude coordinates? Thanks.

You can create a CPT for those businesses without an address, and then select that CPT at
GD > general > general tab > Select CPT to disable physical location
That will allow you to use listings without an address.

Also, do you have a sample csv file of just the mandatory data needed to import. I don’t have a lot of the fields that are shown in the sample data file. I want to make sure I get it right. Thanks.

    Hi,

    that will not import.

Because of double quotes (which are used as delimiters) part of the content of each column is being moved to the next column, messign up the whole file.

    See image attached.

Try to avoid ” and if you can’t use a backslash before them. Like this: ” (that will tell the file that it’s not a delimiter)

    Let us know,

    Thanks

    Paolo-

I apologize for the many questions but appreciate the help. I am looking at fixing this csv file, so if I open in notepad and us the find and replace option, what would you suggest I replace the ” with? The ” ? Or should I use the Find option and delete the ” ?

On the ” is it both of those keys? Or do I leave out the “?

One last question…in the notepad, I see some columns have many commas, will this interfere with the import? I have attached screenshots.

You really need to use OpenOffice, please review https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/core-export

I had used libreoffice, which was listed. So, I am downloading openoffice now. Do I open my csv in open office and then fix the formatting? Do I use a find and replace function?

    Hi,

make sure to clean it up and avoid empty rows.

There are other weird charcters like: Insurance Centralÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ (row 230)

Make sure all headers are there as in the sample file. Between post_category
and post_type you ahve 5 empty headers (that’s not going to work).

Several listings have empty address, that will not work.

Post region cannot be abbreviation. Kansas should be Kansas not KS

Several listings have lat and long, that will not work.

Do not delete file header, leave them blank but don’t delete them. You deleted everything after geodir_website

Let us know how you went.

    Thanks
