Hi,
The category links which show by default under the search bar (featured area) on Supreme Directory are not keeping the set location.
Is this right? (hope not!)Thanks
AndreApril 24, 2019 at 10:29 pm #482696Hello,
there is a setting, try adjusting it and seeing which way you like better.
Under GD – Settings – Locations – Show Advanced – Archive and Detail URLs
April 24, 2019 at 10:47 pm #482698Hi,
It works and the location urls are persistent if I set a location manually (i.e. region/city) but not when geolocated via browser (GPS coordinates e.g. location/near/me/38.766714799999995,-9.3794233/)
April 24, 2019 at 10:51 pm #482699In GDV2, location is set by landing on a location page. The location stays set until another location is set or the user browses to a non-gd page, or visits the /location/ page where the location is set back to ‘everywhere’.
The near me page is a special function and does not set a location in and of itself.
If you still have questions about this please send the URL you are talking about so we can see what you see.
April 24, 2019 at 11:05 pm #482704If I understand correctly, when I use the “Near Me” feature, I am redirected to a page which has no location set, right?
My page is https://www.parentland.pt
Sounds far from ideal to my use case, as I wish my users would be able to just set a location near them and start from there. What is the expected user journey otherwise? To use the search bar all the way (CPT+category+near)?
April 25, 2019 at 7:34 am #482746The expectation is that users find their location using the Near field in the search bar, yes.
Once they do, then the location is set and category URLs automatically include the location, helping to focus the listings in the area of the visitor.
The process of getting the user to their location can be done with the near search field or with direct links to locations where you have a lot of listings. Sometimes our members will take a look at which locations are popular and add those location pages to a menu for easy access.
You can also do something like that with the GD Locations widget, which will output a list of cities on your site.
April 26, 2019 at 11:22 am #483030Ok, I see. It’s a pity that location can’t be set from automatic geolocation (GPS). Is this technically not viable for a future update?
Ideally there would be an automatic geolocation on homepage load, or user could manually choose other location. In the meantime, the current solution doesn’t seem to be working well. When I choose a location, the category icons do show the category/ABC/location, but when I use the CPT selector and change the CPT, the category icons loose location.
Please check here: https://www.parentland.pt/location/porto/
and change the CPT selectorApril 26, 2019 at 12:51 pm #483048It looks like you hid the categories?
GD Categories will keep the location, if you want to use that.I will flag your question about geolocation for the developers. However there are other options available including the Near Me button and the Near search field -> Near Me.
April 26, 2019 at 12:55 pm #483049Yes, I have hidden the category selector. But the category icons which show under the search bar on Supreme Directory are what I am referring to. They are not keeping location set after switching CPT on the CPT selector. Does seem like a bug.
As for geolocation, them problem is that if I use the Near Me button the location is not fixed (as you mentioned before) so it is awkward for the user that geolocates but this is not kept…
April 26, 2019 at 12:57 pm #483051Did you disable the option in the Locations tab for Archive URLs?
If the category or details page has a location, then the category links will keep the location unless you disable those options.April 26, 2019 at 1:25 pm #483059This reply has been marked as private.April 26, 2019 at 1:33 pm #483060That is as expected, though, because those are CPT archives without a location.
Location and archive are different pages and you may want to adjust GD Categories, maybe add a second one for the location page if you need other options there.
April 26, 2019 at 1:38 pm #483063Not sure I understand.
All my CPTs have location enabled. The behavior of changing CPT through the selector seems to be failing. Again back to my example, initially the location is set on the (category icon) link, if changing to a different CPT and back to the initial one through the CPT selector, location is lost on the link.April 26, 2019 at 1:58 pm #483065On this one: /activities/category/sports/porto/
If you hold the cursor over Judo, it has porto in the URL as it should.schools/category/public/ has no location, so category URLs will not have location.
April 26, 2019 at 3:01 pm #483075Right – that’s clear.
The issue is really with the location page and the category icons below the search bar – for example https://www.parentland.pt/location/porto/.
The URLs from the icons change when toggling the CPT using the CPT selector (see img1.png – on page load, good behavior, URL correct and img2.png – after toggling the CPT, URL lost location)
