    Hi there,

We are moving along with our project and since we have so many categories, we really like that we can have descriptions for them at the top of the Listings pages. It would help to make our site consistent if those descriptions could also appear at the top of the Search pages.

Barring that, is it possible to somehow have the category descriptions appear in the Right Sidebar? Is there some code I could add to a Text widget to pull in the descriptions? Is there a plugin I could use that is compatible with GeoDirectory?

    Thank you!

    Hi Deb,

a search page is not a category page (even if you select a category as a variable of your search), so it’s impossible to show the category description on top of a search result page.

There is no easy way to move the category TOP description in the sidebar. A template must be modify and customized to achieve something like that, otherwise a custom widget should be built.

    Thanks

    Hi Paolo,

Suzy here (I am working on the project with Deb). I would like to try an experiment: If you would tell where in what file the code is to call in the Category Top Description, I am going to try using the PHP Code Widget plugin to see if I can display the description in the Sidebar. If things go wonky, I can always yank out that plugin via FTP. Styling is easy; it’s what I do.

    Thank you!

    Hi Suzy,

I can save you the time, the code to call the category top description will do nothing in a PHP widget used in a search result page. It will probably result in a PHP Fatal error instead.

It only works in an archive page.

    Thank you
