Certain fields not saving in listing

I have my site setup so that each listing has a category attached. I then link to that category in my main navigation menu. I have done this so that I can take advantage of the category description, which I have below my listings. It’s a way for me to make my “free” listings less enticing as they aren’t even clickable.

However, I have recently realized that my listings are no longer attached to the category that was selected. Upon further review, some other listing information is missing as well. I’ve tried to update them, but it isn’t saving. My menu is still linking to the categories so that my listings don’t appear. However, if I link them to the actual listing archives, my category descriptions will disappear.
